    Hey guys,

I currently have a 2018 DCSB V6 SR5 and regret not getting 4x4, MT, and diff locker. I figure I eat the hit and trade it for something I want. Could I get some folks to chime in on a deal I have lined up?

2018 MGM DCSB TRD Off Road 6MT (no tech or premium) with front tint, predator steps, all weather mats, 265/70/16 Duratracs, and 3M clear bra added by Toyota. There are also some extended powertrain and paint warranties that come from the dealer regardless.

MSRP 37,847, sale price before tax tag license etc 31,499, with 1,000 rebate that will apply after tax. They’re giving me 25,000 for my SR5. Aside from tax and tag, there’ll be a 799 dealer fee.

Normally I would opt for something without add ons but I’m looking to add tires and steps anyway..

Let me know what you think!

The MT is much more fun to drive and I wouldn’t want one without 4x4

Comes out to 20.5k otd after trade/tax/tag/title, 1.9% for 4 years. Gonna put cash on top to keep the monthly similar to what I’ve got now.

Make sure you've got these things settled when heading back to the finance guy to sign your paperwork:

    • final exact amount you owe on the new truck (price minus trade-in minus any additional down payment),
    • what exactly your interest rate will be
    • make sure that the big number you're borrowing exactly matches the final amount owed on the sales sheet

I was going to borrow 10k even with a certain Toyota dealership in the Nashville area and told the sales guy I worked with that I was fine with a 5 year loan term. He circled the 5 year plan, which included a payment range. When I went back to finance, my credit was so good that I got a lower rate than they were expecting which pushed my payment about $20/month below the range my sales guy circled. So what do these dirtbags do? They literally added money to my loan amount to get it within that payment range, hoping I would only care to check that the payment was within the range my sales guy circled. $20/month over 5 years is $1200. They just added that to my loan, hoping I wouldn't notice.

I sat there thinking...why does this contract say I'm borrowing over 11k?! I told the finance guy to just stop right now and that I felt like I'd been baited and switched here. I grabbed my sales sheet which said after trade-in and my down payment, I would owe 10k even. I asked why the hell they tacked more money onto that number? He made a show of trying to figure out what someone else did (it's ALWAYS someone else when you catch a dealership doing something really shady to you) and fixed it while I watched. I won't be dealing with that dealership ever again.

Moral of the story: Be extremely aware every step of the way.

Might be in the ballpark. I had mine at $32,180. Didn't have the tires added though. Was a current year 2017 in March

What’s your tax? Did you have any other add ons?

Wait, didn't we determine this was MT? The couple hundy tax difference, will be more than recouped when you decide to sell it.

It's a MT, pull the trigger

I haven’t been keeping up on values. Is that a good value for your trade in? I’d look it up, but don’t know exactly what you have, option wise.

Carvana will buy my truck outright for 27k but I’d miss out on the tax incentive. They gave me 25k on trade and the post tax rebate of 1k, it’s ballpark there.

With that rebate, and a 27K offer on the table, I’d make them give you the extra grand.

Do you need 4WD? That’s a lot of money to throw away if you don’t really need it. I mean you didn’t get 4WD originally so I would guess you might not really need it.

I intended to only haul my bikes around but took the 2wd off-roading and now I am hooked. I also got stranded or couldn’t make it to certain areas because of the 2wd and decided to sell off a bike for a new hobby. Figure no amount of tire/lift/air locker will replace real 4wd and locker and trading up would be better than modding up the 2wd.
