So today my v6 battery died. Bought the truck Jan 2016. I looked at the date of the battery and it is stamped 1/12/15. Seems jacked up but whatever so I go into Costco to replace it and the guy looks up my year and says your replacement is group 27F. I say that’s weird cause on the battery it says 24F. He says that battery is for the 4 cylinder. The new battery is almost 2 inches bigger and doesn’t fit in the tray. I checked other places and they all said replacement is 27F. Anyone else have this issue? I am contacting corporate to say WTF

Sounds like the Costco guy was looking up 2nd Gen Tacoma, your 2016 takes a 24F. If you have less than 36,000 Miles on your truck then it will be covered under warranty.

1st mistake is going to Costco for vehicle batteries. Isn't there an Interstate Battery in your area? The battery is THE most important part of a vehicle. No Juice=No Go!

    Costco batteries are Interstate batteries.

On the 2nd gen, the tow package has a group 27 battery, the non-tow package has a different battery. Not sure about the 3rd gen...

If you really want a 27F, people are replacing the 3rd gen tray with a 2nd gen. Do a search. YMMV.

That is true, but how much does a Costco Associate know about batteries and what will work and what won't? What is an upgrade and what isn't? Is it an MT or MTP series? I wouldn't trust my driving safety on what a Costco employee told me.

    Hello all,
I hope you find this information useful.

    2017 Tacoma Off Road
    36,000 miles
    Less than 1 year old

Had trouble starting. Dead battery. Would have to jump every 5-8 starts.

Called Service Advisor and he said that over 36,000 miles it doesn't technically fall under warranty but they would take care of me.

Scheduled an appointment, they ran a test, the battery was toward the "low" end of cold cranking amps. Swapped it out and was out of the dealer in 45 minutes.

I asked if this was common and he said that this sort of symptom is very common.

Also have a 17 taco with 25k miles and the battery went dead a month ago. Had the dealer swap it out under warranty. This is a common issue with the 3rd gens.

    Yep, it happens a lot...
    All 3rd Gens are 24F...
    Buy a 2nd Gen tray...
And a 27F fits like it belongs...
    Batteries are important :D

Any recommendation on the battery tray? Doing google searches, I’m only finding dual battery trays. I appear to be google-challenged on this one.

    No problem... It's a 74431-0C020 part number

Lots of places have them, even Amazon... But the cheapest right now seems to be OEMPartSource

Here's a link... But please search around just in case there's a better price
