Hurricane Categories are an expected damage scale (which is predicted by the average wind and gust speeds).
    • Cat 2: Extensive damage is expected
    • Cat 3: The top end of the Building Code Design Spec. A new house should not fall down if it were built to code. Everything else will have catastrophic damage.
    • Cat 4: You can expect catastrophic damage. You will be unlucky if a new house falls down, but it will happen. The roof and exterior walls are likely casualties.
    • Cat 5: You will be lucky if the house does NOT fall down.
    • Cat 6: The house already fell down in Cat 5. There is nothing left to inflict additional levels of damage, so there is no Cat 6.
You have a Cat 4/5 storm coming in :-(

    First and foremost: Be Safe.

For me the most unnerving thing was there was absolutely no sound that day or the next.
All private planes were grounded. It seems the birds took heed also. Never heard it that quiet...
    Kinda like the world died...

So part of yesterday's excitement was when I walk into the bosses office and he shows me an email that said we won't have power out at one of the most popular campgrounds starting 1 October for 45 days....it was one of those WTF moments. We all started thinking about ways to overcome it and get dependable temporary power. We have a well pump, 5 sewage lift stations, host sites, contractor site, a contact station, 6 restrooms. So this morning while the boss was making phone calls, two of us were getting our thoughts and ideas together. The boss finally gets someone on the phone who sounds like she has her shit together but wasn't sure how tight so she agrees to meet us out to the sites and get it tighter. Turns out we're good and won't lose power afterall. But we are going to take advatage of this exercise and prep the locations for alternate power (generators) to include revisiting an idea to add more solar to lower our reliance on grid power....it was exciting!

Been hunting.....for a dog. There's an 80-something lady that lives down the street. Her "baby", Gizmo, a 4 year old Yorkie got out of her yard and took off. I saw a post on facebook. So I went looking. It was lost near the middle school. I thought it would be best to let the police know what I was doing around the school at dismissal time. The cop thought he'd lend a hand. He jumped in with me and we started looking. 10 minutes in, he spots Gizmo. We got out and called the dog. He came running to me. We took him home. There was 3 VERY happy people. And one happy dawg. Side perk....I now know a rookie cop that makes time to help the public.

So many wins I lost count!

You never know. When Katrina hit, a bunch of guys from the Ford truck forum drove to the city with water, batteries, flashlights, ice, and generators. They grabbed everything locally,as they knew there wouldn’t be anything as they got close. Once they were close, the local guys took the supplies into the city. It was really nice to see people helping each other.

I had to drive from San Diego to Fresno...in a hurry. Oddly enough, once I got on I-5 North out of San Fernando I was hauling ass (75-85 mph)...there was no traffic. Then I see a car going faster than me. He pulled up along side. It was a CHP. He sees my uniform hanging in the back door window, sees I'm wearing one that looks identical, gives me a thumbs up and pulled away from me. There was nobody on the freeways to speak of.
