Just checked the leaderboard, im "in production"!! Still a long wait though, since I wont be picking it up until late November unless I do shipping.

 

Any news on the lighting kit? I opted to get it but wasnt sure if its available yet

 

just got my email yesterday!!! now i can't decide on color.... i did some crappy photoshopping with a stock taco image (though mine is pretty stock too). i like the black the best i think but will often have dogs back there. I know the roof is well insulated and white but can any one with the black give me any idea of how hot it gets in the sun?

I have black on my white truck here in SoCal and I'd say its comparable to the interior of my truck.

The thing is, it cools immediately when you open all the panels, and then stays at a pretty comfortable temperature while they're open .

I'm very happy with my color choice .

 

I haven't noticed any real changes in the Leaderboard in quite some time. I've been "in production" for about a month and number of "in production" ahead of me seems to be the same. Certainly nothing that reflects their increase to 10 units a week. About time for an update from the powers that be, wouldn't you say. Getting kind of dark again.

 

Looks awesome. I’d consider one too.

 

The completed jumped to 49 recently. it was at 42 for a long time before that. The "In production" color is slowly creeping its way to my name on that list which is cool. It would be cool if they just updated it at a set time every week. Then, anyone on it, knows to just look at that date/time and its all good. Just my thought

 

Ok fellow GFC owners. What the F&@k!?!? Finally got a morning off work to actually play with my newly acquired GFC and either I’m missing something or....


Long story short the two side windows have the screens on the OUTSIDE and the storm flaps INSIDE. They unzip and tuck away nice.

The back however is the OPPOSITE... i can roll up my screen from the inside and it’s got a wacky flap that clips and holds it rolled up. The Storm flap however is on the OUTSIDE and has no place to tuck or roll up????????? I can toss it up over the roof But hat doesn’t seem like a solution in there’s any wind....

Am i missing something obvious???? I think rolling up the storm flap and having the screen down would be much more useful than the other way around. Also if it starts raining at night i need to unzip the screen to zip down the storm flap? Which is just blowing free in the breeze? This doesn’t seem correct to me? @wileydavis can you comment???

 

Are there spare, open snaps on the top between the screen and flap? I think there was a loose strap on the early GFCs for tying off the outer flap. On the newer pics, I think there are two flaps that are snapped on. One to capture the rolled up outer flap and one to grap the rolled up screen?

 

Ok i got it. And to be fair to GFC there was a ~12” black nylon strap velcroed on to the rear tube (see picture) which i promptly removed because it made no sense to me.

So if you take the carabiner from the the inboard panel and clip it to the outboard panel and put that loop back on your tube you can roll up the storm flap. Works pretty good. Though taking it down at night in a storm would be less than awesome.

 

I often do that same thing: WTF is this extra bit? Toss it, and then realize it was kind of important. At least yours didn't end up in the trash.

As opposed to setting up a ground tent in the rain and the getting the rain fly on before you have a personal pool? But yeah, I don't miss the torrential downpours of the east.

 

Lol no. I clipped it around the handle on my fridge. I figured i needed it for something. Again to be fair to gfc Graeme might be showing people this but i had to go right to work before we had time to talk.

 

It sounds like it was a hectic night. At least you had all the parts delivered and on hand. It's a well thought out design that I dream about. SOOOON!

 

I think your having to leave right away is reason he wasn't able to let you know about this.

Graeme did explain all this to me.

Was he able to give you a quick explanation on how to position the removable panels to make closing easiest? Big panel all the way to the back and then remove the two little panels. It lets the air evacuate from the tent much faster while keeping the tent material from hanging down inside.

 

The leaderboard has been updated. My XL unit is "in production"!
I presume they're doing a production run of a half dozen or so.
It will be interesting to see the variety of trucks that will have the XL's and how that will materialize in the interior arrangements.

Glad you got it figured out As for the reasoning, if the back door had the rain fly on the inside, you'd have to make sure to tuck it into the rain gutter at the bottom every time you closed it, otherwise it would direct lots of water into the tent. This isn't a problem on the side windows since the bottom of those is permanently snapped into the rain gutter. But on the back door the bottom is free so the door can open. The back door is actually similar to most tents, with the mesh on the inside and the rain fly door on the outside, so you have to unzip the mesh to open the rain fly. And as you've probably seen, the inboard panel will tie open both mesh and outer door, and the middle panel will tie open just the outer door.

So when you're up in this thing, how does it work with closing up your tailgate and the back of the camper? And locking the tailgate too?
