Hi all you wonderful and knowledgeable tacoma owners. If I may ask for your assistance...I am the proud owner of a 2017 TRD 4X4 Off Road Access Cab. I was up in the hills for about 2 hours and about 30 minutes from town and it started to rain and became chilly. After the 2 hours I got in my tacoma, started it, and noticed that the tire inflation pressure warning light came on. Well this was a surprise because I made sure that each tire had the required tire pressure of 30 PSI when cold for my 265/70 R 16 tires. The warning light stayed on until I reached town, which is at a lower altitude, and then at a stop sign...the warning light went off. I have been monitoring my tire pressure when driving and it is at a consistent 27 PSI.

    Questions:
    1. I had the tires rotated. Did the technician not initialize the tire pressure warning system?
    2. Do I have any problems that I am not aware of, etc.

    Thanks much

30 seems a tad low. What does the sticker in your door jamb say?

The sticker in the door jam says 30 PSI when cold.

A 10% pressure change is consider optimal from cold to normal operating temps. So, you might see the warning more often if you don't reset the threshold (hold the TPMS button down and wait for three flashes on the dash). The threshold will be changed to slightly lower.

Yeah. The tech might have dropped your tire pressures. In my experience, they usually they over inflate.

There you have it Zenny. The rapid change in temperature caused the loss of air pressure in the tires. Plus you were there for couple hours. I had that happen to my tires one night after the temperature dropped overnight.
Nothing to worry about. Keep a portable compressor in your truck.

I would stop when the light comes on and check with a manual pressure gauge to see where you're at. You could also try to reset your TPMS. May be set too high. That being said, I've never lived in high to low altitude areas, might just be a thing.

That also. I remember a rule of thumb of about 1psi per 10F change?
