I'm looking an getting rid of that obnoxious chrome "TACOMA" on my driver and passenger doors and blacking it out!

Is there a "best" way to do this? I've seen a couple threads - some removing the badges and handling and some "taping" off the surrounding area and spraying(then peeling any excess).

Does anyone have any input or advice on which is easier/better?

You can tape it off and plastidip or you can take them off and spray paint them. To put them back on you just need to use 3m double sided tape.

Just re-dipped mine this morning because the edges were starting to come off. I just use some dollar stoee trash bags cut them in half and tape them around the front door and part of the back one. I then use tape and get it super close to the badge itself to prevent any dripping and then go at it. Any plastidip you get on the doors or fender will rub right off so it’s an easy process without any room for a screw up really. Just start spraying BEFORE you get to the badge and make it a continuous spray, don’t stop halfway. Do one facing forward, one facing up, one facing down, and maybe one facing inside the badge to get all areas covered. I allow 3 minutes to pass by before I hit it again. Takes about 12-15 sprays to get it done. Then let it dry for 10 minutes before you start peeling.

Best way to take care of the chrome badges is to take some fishing line and use it as a "knife" to saw through the adhesive. GO slow and be careful and it will come off. This way you won't risk bending the badge. Once it is off, use something like goofoff to get the remaining sticky stuff off.
Once you've done that, it's time to make the badges look good. Start by carefully picking up one of them and get prepped. It's best to do this part over a trashcan. Now for step 1: Throw the badge in the trash. Repeat as needed. and you'll be all done and your truck will look all the better for it.

Agreed, take them off, then don't put them back on...

Just did mine. There are 2 methods.

    1. Mask off and cover your truck
    2. Remove, clean badge/truck, double sided tape

Something to remember is MANY light coats.

******plasti dip will not bridge gaps! This is to your advantage. Some folks will tape 1” away from badge and peel excess off the body leaving dip on the badge, since there is a small gap between the badge and body

I personally used method 2 but it is sure a PITA cleaning the glue off and cleaning the back side of the badge, but I feel like I was able to get better and more even coverage in all the holes in the badge

    To each their own!3B11B0FD-B83F-4AC5-85A9-294E03FE5FF6.jpg

Until you run into the headache of cutting 3M adhesive tape to the exact fit of the badge or make it look worse by having the tape be noticeable.

Also, like someone else suggested, fishing line is the only way to go for removal... Park in the sun or use a blow dryer to heat the badge/glue and it’ll cut through like butter.

Here’s the foam glue stuck to the truck. Peels off the paint with a thumb pretty easy with goo gone (non corrosive citrus stuff) and soap doing a good job removing residue

I threw on some tape for ease of replacement

    Yes, 100%

I personally used 1/4” 3m double sided adhesive which fits perfectly on the horizontal portions of the badge. I ended up with 8 or 10 strips varying from 1” to 3” long. Just use a fresh box cutter to cut to size and it isn’t TOO bad of a job, you just have a bunch of cuts to make, maybe 5 minutes/badge

Don't use dish soap or hand soap. It will remove the wax on the paint.

Mine was fine for over a year. The car wash really beats up the material.
