So I just got the estimate for the warranty paint work. The hood is starting to degrade as well (I didn't even notice before.) Hood, roof and front fenders have to be stripped and resprayed to the tune of $2200... glad I'm not the one paying for it. Also, the dealership agreed to put me in a rental while the taco is in the shop. So far it seems like Toyota stepped up and is fixing the problem.

i took mine to the dealer yesterday and they are painting my cab and hood also as warranty work. Yep stepping up without have to argue anything.

Damn, that’s awful for trucks this new. I wonder if that’s why they’re discontinuing BBP for 2019.

More than likely they just don't want to have three different shades of blue considering cavalry is available in 2019 on all TRD trims, and voodoo blue is the new pro color.

Just a bunch of old crap
Crazy how so many 3rd gens are seeing this clearcoat fading so early. That's insane. My 2006 Indigo started showing fade after 8 years and in the same pattern as what you all are seeing on the roof and hood.

Just got it back from being bedlined a couple weeks ago. Color matched. My hood and roof had so much fading that I was actually down to metal and had a layer of rust on the roof and starting on the hood. They stripped it down to metal and did a polyester primer. Fade issue no longer a problem with 3 coats of bedliner. It looks like a different color under every type of lighting.

Looks flat blue under flourescent lighting at night

4 times the factory pearl, just for fun. Had the grit additive removed so it has a smoother texture

Excuse the greasy handprints and dust marks. Glare on fender makes it look like there's damage. Body is now perfectly straight again.

Prob human error there, someone waxing it on direct sun or using dish washing soap to wash the truck..

Dude that looks awesome! I no longer have my Tacoma. At times I wished I would of just had it Line-x'ed like you did but I couldn't get past that cow manure smell from the a/c. Not to mention what it was doing to my health breathing that funk. Your truck looks great. Below is what I traded for 7 months ago.

A couple pictures of Black Betty sitting on the lot 3 months after I traded her waiting on a new driveway to call home. 7744 miles on the odometer.

Yes Sir the evap core box under in the dash had mold or fungus growing in/on it. Instead of letting the service dept. take my dash out to clean the evap core I decided to trade while I could still get top dollar for my Tacoma. And they could not guarantee the mold/fungus would not return. Also the dash probably would of rattled and the hard plastic interior of my truck would of been gouged and scratched up. Below is a picture of a evap core with the issue mine had.

Damn that's nuts. So glad I live in a dry climate. Wow, I can only imagine the swamp smell coming out of that. Too bad so sad for the next owners!

They had to smell it when they test drove the truck because it was warm in May. I was honest and told the salesman about the smell and he told me not to worry about it. I told him I just wanted him to know about it and he should try to get rid of it while it was still fairly cold out. Truck is still under warranty till 9 NOV of this year. Maybe they got it cleaned before they sold it.

My 2017 TRD is severely faded on the roof and now starting to fade on the hood. It is 17 months old and garaged at night but sits out in the day while at work. I am waiting for the Toyota rep to look at it. It is also blue. For those of you that had repaints, was it done at the dealership? What is the quality of work? How did they blend the roof into the doors?

They repainted the whole cab of my truck, including the doors. This was done at the dealership and came out pretty good. Not every dealership has a body shop on the premises.

Also have a 2017 in blue with the same marks on my roof. Had it at dealership today and they submitted a claim to Toyota to have it fixed. IMG_1707.jpg

I will agree when you see Made in Japan it reflects a higher quality, though I think the paint issue has more to do with saving money...My Tundra was 15 years old and the paint held up very well, made in the USA...TOYOTA MOTOR MANUFACTURING, INDIANA, INC.

I would AGREE 100% with you...I used to intentionally bush whack down my dirt road to my house, no marks left on the Tundra...my Tacoma OR already has some light marks from just grazing branches. I honestly don’t think even a clay/polish and finishing two coats of ceramic will fix this. If I am wrong, tell me so. I would wash my Tundra no more than twice a year, no joke...it's a TRUCK. I would only clean off bird shit or tree sap in-between. What about this Ceramic PRO folks are talking about on top of the paint? http://www.ceramicpro.com

Looks like everyone who's had issues with BBP has had a 2017 truck. Anyone with a 2018 BBP have paint issues? I am looking to buy one as I think it's the best color but not with what I've seen here...

I have a 2018 blazing Blue. The paint quality is on par with the previous newer Honda and Subaru I owned. The subbie was terrible, this new taco is much better.

To the owners that have has fad problems, did you take care of the paint? Frequent wash and wax or polishing? I constantly polish. I don't think id have this issue.

The paint issues are not related to paint care, they are a direct result of a defective paint that is why Toyota is covering it under warranty.
