I need to remove the 22re engine to r&r parts to a new short block. Is this something I would be able to do what with the EFI, etc.I am a backyard mechanic with just tools to work with. This is in a 1993 toyota pick up.
    Thanks,

Unplug the harness from the ecu, push it through the firewall and drap it over the top of the motor. To get the top bellhousing bolts unbolt the trans crossmember and drop it down a few inches, it will tilt the motor/trans assembly allowing you to get the top bolts with a bunch of long extensions.

Takes no specialty tools to pull it. Just a 10,12,14,17 and 19mm wrenches and sockets.

Then when pulling the intake off dont forget allen bolt right under thermo neck and also hidden bolt at top of timing cover under distributor shaft.

Take lots of photos of before and along the way. Get a roll of tape and a Sharpie to label the crap out of every hose, wire, connector, bolt and bracket.

I also kept a notebook that I had photocopies of the FSM with numbers on the labels and sketches of bolt patterns and what not.

The only specialty tool you need is a hoist, which you can rent.

One handy thing I did was cut a piece of plywood that I stuck under a couple of radiator bolts to keep from ramming the engine into the fins. You could remove it if you don't A/C but since I did I left the system in place, which meant the condenser had to stay because it wasn't possible to untangle the plumbing.

Also, taking the hood off helps a lot, as does setting up a few benches to lay stuff out.
