My truck has the original headlights and i have redone them twice. This last time there was still some cloudiness i couldn't get out. I was thinking of either trying a retrofit or just getting new headlights. Doesn't seem like retrofitting is as big a thing as it once was. Just looking for some suggestions.

The cloudiness is from UV light breaking down the plastic. A HID retrofit will increase the light output over the stock halogen bulb but it still can't overcome the cloudiness of the plastic. My 2 cents. Replace your headlights with something new, either aftermarket from Amazon or Ebay, or new OEM from somewhere. If you like the stock light output, buy OEM and replace. If you want more light output than stock, but aftermarket headlights and retrofit a pair of HID projectors into your new lights.

Look at a H4 style projector for ease of retrofit. Two good ones are Morimoto Mini D2S 4.0 or G5-R from Lightwerkz. Both of these have a threaded shaft that fits through the tacoma headlight bucket and are held in place with a bracket that automatically lines up the projector to the original headlight bulb, thus no need to aim the projectors inside the bucket. I plan to go this route on my own Tacoma soon. Let me know if you have questions.

If you want a quality set of retrofits built for you, hit up @kustom54lighting he does some of the best work out there. Had mine for over 3 years and they still look new

If you want to go the DIY route...I would order from theretrofitsource (TRS) as others suggested. I would try to get one of the headlight restore kits and see if that clears the cloudiness for ya. If you arnt comfortable cracking open your lights, then Kustom or LSC seem to do great work from what I have seen. I have done three retrofits now, the OEM taco lights for both 05-11 and 12-15 are easy peasy to open up.

I tried the mequar's heavy duty kit twice and they still have some hazing right in front of the reflectors almost looks like it is on the inside.

If that is truly the case...then yea man I would look for some new lights. Good thing is with yours being a 2009 they are considerably cheaper than the 12-15 ones.

I think if you deviate from OEM then its kind of a crap shoot although I think worst case you will have some fitment issues and the lights might leak in the sealant which wont matter if you are retroing anyway, lastly that the lenses might not have as strong of a UV protectant causing them to cloud faster than OEM. I say just go for an economical one that has the cosmetics that appeal to you and go for it. I wanted something different for my truck at the time and got some LED/euro style ones that are distributed by motoz, but I think they are spyder lights essentially.
