Ahh the Cold War where whoever served in the Military during that time , All we got for recognition is a Certificate and Ribbon and a pin . The ribbon and pin are not recognized as a true military award

I think all Veterans of the Cold War got the Cold shoulder treatment and was treated unfairly !!!!!

Also I felt very proud to serve under President Reagan . One thing I remember during my time in the Military during the Cold War was wearing NBC Suits 4x's per month for a day

I read somewhere (I can't remember now) that the USS Pueblo is still an active ship in the US Navy. although it is captured and held in North Korea.

Really enjoy reading everyone's experience during the cold war. I was in the Wis. NG from 83 - 93. Field Artillery 155 self propelled, don't talk about it much because of how some people feel about the NG, with my dad being one of them. Our unit got to to Ft. Sill 2 years in a row. One time a reg. army Staff Sargent was giving us shit for being NG. I told him that any time he wants he can come up to WI and do my job 1 weekend a mouth and 2 weeks a year and be proficient at it.

To the folks in the SE, stay safe.

Agreed! I was in, so what? A lot of peole were in. I was fotunate enough to never have had to see combat. The cold war games were a whole different animal and our entire preperation was for a Soviet conflict. Proud i served but i’m sure not anything special nor do i try to be

Mine was 4 years old, then it up and died. Went to the autoparts place and purchased an Optima Yellowtop. I had great luck with those batteries in my old truck, so I figured what the heck. At least it has a wider cycle than the old battery.

As for the Pelfrey fiasco, Wow, crazy stuff. I almost purchased a front bumper from them back in 2016 after I wrecked the truck. I was close to a purchase but the shipping would have been too much. I now wonder if that would have turned out ok, or if dodged a bullet. It would have been a quick build and ship, not a preorder and wait. I have a friend whose body shop business went into bankruptcy. All it took was a bad accountant and overpaying sales taxes. The state drove him into insolvency within a year.

And now for the cold war. I was born in Plzen, CZ and left with my mother in 1968, right before they closed the borders. As with many Eastern bloc countries, we were sold on communism, then the Russian army moved in to "protect" communist party citizens who were being attacked by "anti-communist forces". In truth, it was just normal people who didn't think the government should have full power over everyone's rights. By the time the tanks were in the streets, it was too late. The next steps were to close the borders, which makes no sense if you want the dissidents to leave. We moved to Canada, then ultimately to the US. Went back to visit in the late 1970s, and the whole country was broken. No one really cared about their work, everything was dirty, houses in disrepair and long lines for everything. The communist system totally f'ed up an entire generation of Czechs. My relatives tell me it's better now. The Germans purchased the Skoda plant in my hometown and business is booming again. My remaining family got the old home back from the state and have turned it into a B&B http://www.zamek-jindrichovice.cz/. One day I may go back to visit, but it's not home anymore. It seems like a distant sandcastle to me now; just wiped away by an ocean wave. Lost because of a stupid political theory that never helped anyone. I'm proud to be a US citizen and I love each and every one who serves this great country. I've seen what happens when communism is turned loose and how it destroys a culture.
