Anyone have recommendations for some secluded truck camping in the upstate NY, VT, NH area? Even southern Maine or Mass. I cant really find a secluded campsite around the Adirondacks that I dont have to hike into.

I dont mind hiking either, but everyone gets such cool pics of their trucks way out in the wild and id like to have some too.

Lol. There’s definitely a difference between the East Coast Off Road options and the Western choices. I’m interested to see what the locals say for the NE USA. We are planning on an East Coast trip for summer 2019.

Well as you can see it is not great. One tip I got on reddit was south western Maine. I didn’t check it out yet.

I'm interested in off road trails that allow for traveling north from FL towards Maine, and then back. It's for my wife and I towing an A Frame Pop Up behind a (well set up and modified) 2015 TRD OR 4X4.

We're interested in a coastal route one way and a mountainous route the other way.
Beyond that main general concept, any favorite camping spots or areas and points of interest would be great to know as well.

We're acquiring all the available literature, maps and trail reports that are available but if you know any resources we should also consider.... we'd love to check them out too. :)

How far into it are you looking to get? Maine is pretty big. Could do anything from Mt Katahdin, north woods Maine, bar harbor...tons of woods

Not sure. Definitely the coast and across into the mountains then back down.... or vice versa. We used to buy some seed potatoes from some growers in Maine so maybe some side trips to the potato growing areas even...lol.

Fyi traveling up here can be slow. Mainly due to trail condition, elevation, or right of passage changes. I normally travel with about 5 maps and in some areas I include satellite imaging for backup. I suggest looking into HAM radio if you haven't already just in case.

Location wise, I'd suggest doing the long haul up to Bar harbor / thunder hole. The cross over to millinocket and check out Mt Katahdin. You can camp there, and would be a good break point. Then maybe head to the abandoned trains up past Telos Rd @ eagle lake (there's more than 1 eagle lake in Maine btw, be careful). Either camp there, or if time allows come back down to golden road and exit through Greenville Rd towards moosehead where you can stay at a state park there. It's a nice gathering point for supplies, hot showers, and there's the B-52 crash site that is well worth the drive.

From there I'd say go towards Errol NH and down through the white mtns. From there you could cross into VT for the green mountains.....

....it's really hard to answer because you'll have to specify how much time you're looking to spend in areas, how your vehicle is set up, accommodations that will be needed, and overall experience in traveling / off roading.

Ex. If you go to the trains in Maine and break down, no one is coming for you. Haha

If you are coming up from Florida, assuming you are passing by Virginia, you could explore the George Washington National Forest..... There are a few decent trails there. I can recommend Peters Mill Gap and Flagpole Knob, both are fun trails to run. There is a free to use campground at the end of Peters Mill called "Little Foot Campground" as well. They aren't super technical and minimal chances of really breaking things since you're on a rod trip..

We’re definitely coming up through VA! I spent almost 4 years outside of Charlottesville back in the 80’s and I’m looking forward to seeing what has happened to that area since then. Ablemarle county and across to Waynesville was a very pretty area back then. I appreciate the tips on the two trails and the camping! We will definitely check out GWNF.

Max, that’s a ton of great info! Thank you!! We are tentatively planning the route your describing. Up, out, back in and then down through the White and Green mountains. I’m planning on having my HAM license and a decent radio before the trip. Thunder Hole and the crazy tides in Bar Harbor made a fantastic and somewhat terrifying impression on me as a child and I can’t wait to get back there. We are fairly experienced and the truck can handle more than we’ve put it through so far. Here’s what we did this last summer: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ing-and-trails-adventure-with-my-wife.556594/

Well. There is about a 90% chance we will be at some attraction in New England in the summer . Look us up when you come around. Could show you a few good spots.

Also deff get the ham license. I can give you the repeaters up here when the time comes. There's a whole bunch that are linked In NH
