So I just got a new set of 235/85 Cooper STT pro. After talking through the install at the shop. There is no way these tires will not rub the upper control arm. I have a 2015 access cab. anyone have these problems? I have read many posts where ppl have done this, so i though it woukd be an easy install with no probs. I am thinking I will need some spidertrack spacers.

Boy this is driving me nuts. I searched and searched and just can't find anyone with this issue. The coopers are 235s (which measure just a hair under 32"), but just as wide as my stock 245s on there (on stock steel rims btw). Here is a pic if anyone has any input - although the pic doesn't do it justice. Maybe I (and the mechanic) aren't seeing things right. I think they will rub the UCA, how close can I get to it btw?

After some research, I am pretty sure my steel wheels have 5.25 inch backspacing. I guess new rims or spacers are in order

The 245s that you have now are .4" wider than the typical 235. You're going to have more height, sure, but you should be fine. You may rub the uca at full lock, but it shouldn't be too bad.

They shouldn't rub the UCA. The new tires are 10mm narrower than what you have now.

tires will articulate with the uca unless they are frozen on and only your tires are moving.

Have 'em mount up one tire without even bothering to balance it and test fit it on both sides. Don't just "hold the tire up there" which it appears you're doing now, but mount it.

If it doesn't work - only one factory tire to remount and balance.

    But it ought to work.

Consensus is, give it a shot. There is a little shop down the road, I'll just pop a tire off, get one mounted and put it on myself. Thanks guys!

So, could I still use this as an excuse to buy new rims? The wife is already convinced I need them :D

New wheels or wheel spacer is needed if you are really worried, I'm running 35x12.5r17 on stock Sport wheels and the back spacing is 5.5 which definitely would not clear the control arm so I am temporary running a 1.25 inch wheel spacer till I can get new wheels. You should be pretty fine though just test mount like every is saying!

Don't be too quick to swap rims. When you decrease backspacing to clear the upper control arm, you greatly increase the chance of rubbing on the wheelwell and mudflaps at full lock. There are no actions without consequences. If you can mount them on the stock rims (as you *should* be able to) that'll actually be your best fit with most tire/wheelwell clearance.
