    Hi everyone,

As title says, long-time Tacoma owner, but new here. I would have never guessed when I bought my truck at Red McComb’s Toyota in San Antonio in March of 1998 that it would remain my one and only daily driver to this day. Never knew before reading these forums that these trucks are known for rust issues...mine has spent half its life in Texas, and the other half in Washington State and thankfully remains rust free. Besides two timing belts and two new sets of tires, the truck is all original, including the clutch.

Anyways, looking forward to being part of TacomaWorld’s community!

I’m at 162,XXX miles now, which really should be too few miles to have had a second timing belt replacement. Toyota was recommending a 60K mile interval replacement back when the truck hit that figure, so it was replaced. That interval is now 90K miles.

The only issue my truck has had is weeping valve cover gaskets. I had those replaced at 140,XXX miles but there are signs the new gaskets are beginning to weep as well. Nothing that resembles a drip, just a film or residue that’s visible because it collects dust and dirt.

Yes, they’re amazing trucks. I’ve yet to replace a headlight or the windshield, believe it or not. It’s also amazing ten years of Texas sun had no effect on the dash or paint. The truck still looks great and everything works, A/C included.

I’ve come close to selling it and upgrading into a new 4Runner, but couldn’t bring myself to actually go through with it..just didn’t feel right.
