I am looking to buy a second set of rims and tire for this winter.
Don t want to leave my new rims on for sure in these winter seasons that we have!
I wish that those simple metal rims would nt rust like crazy after a while, but if i can t find something descent at a reasonable price on a second set of rims, ill put those ugly black metal rims that most of us have in the winter times.
Also,on my Tac right now has P265/65/17 tire ..
Should i have the same winter size for the winter times?
Before i changed my Tacoma last spring,my other Tacoma had smaller tirer for the winter times and Man it looked and felt like they were just too small for my Tac...
    Any recomandations?
    Thanks

I bought a set of used TRD Sport alloy wheels from a 2009 to use for winter and some 265/70/17 tires. The wheels were all corroded to shit so I sanded and repainted them with duplicolor wheel paint. They turned out pretty good and the slightly larger tires look much better than the factory size.

I have a 17 Off Road, and have a set of 16" black steel rims with Michelin X-Ice for winter. I find it ironic that we all find black steel rims "ugly", but the trend is to put black alloys on, instead of chrome or silver! From a distance on the road, it is hard to tell an ugly black steel wheel vs. an expensive black alloy. wheel.

As far as winter tires, IMHO, the most important thing is stopping in slippery or icy conditions. Lots of truck tires are probably ok for winter traction (especially with 4WD), but those tires can't compete with true winter tires for stopping, which have much better winter rubber compounds. Blizzaks and X-Ice etc. don't have aggressive treads, but work better because of the rubber.

Go to Tirerack.com, and check your size and brand options, and see user ratings. While they will ship to Canada, I doubt whether you will save much versus shopping locally, but worth evaluating.

Look around here and CL for a good deal on rims. Then decide what tire you want.

I found a great deal on a set of Trail rims. I mounted Duratracs (stock size) on them has my winter set....though snow tires may be a better bet for you depending on your needs.

Yes,you do have some good advices.
As for metal rims, yes from far they are nt bad,but they rust like hell!
My wife s Camry, not even two years with her metal black rims,Man two outbif four are really rusted out!
Those came from Toyota Dealer also.
So,,that is why,i am after maybe a second set of rims with maybe a bit more quality then those cheepos one..
As for winter tirers,,i will probably go this time with Bizzak,,last time i had Toyo Observe which i thought were not the best of winter tirers in my experiences..
    All the best

I've had experience with both off road type tires and dedicated snow tires in the winter. The Goodyear Duratracs are just as good as snows in deep snow. But in light snow and slushy conditions, the snows have the advantage.
