Howdy - new Taco owner and in the process of getting my parts together for a lift - wheels and tires.

Going to go Fox 2.0 coils up front w Fox 2.0 w/ resi’s in the rear. Looking to net approx 2” total lift front and rear - and to get CLOSE to level.

First question - with 2” - smart to the the carrier bearing drop kit? Pretty cheap kit cost wise - so may as well??

Second - go Dakar Mediums?? Or - go w/ an AAL kit in the back? Looks like Dakar’s are the easier install - but - what else is the upside? MAY do a camper/cap at some point - but the weight still doesn’t justify the heavy kit. Nonetheless - Dakar or AAL?

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to TW
Have you considered getting the Dakar Heavy Duty pack. You can take out one of the leafs, then if you add a camper you can add the leaf back in. Some people say the CB drop kit isn’t necessary, but as cheap as it is why not. Good luck with your build.

Good point on the heavy Dakar - still not sure the weight of the camper justifies it though.

And thinking the CB drop is a ‘just do it’.

The diff drop it isn't suggested.
    The carrier bearing is.

The suggestion of getting a heavy pack and removing the leaf is a good suggestion. Just give Marie a call or any of the other TW vendors and they can help you with your specific set up. Real friendly people

I’d go with the dakars. I have HeadStrong’s AAL and a shell with a platform. If I add additional weight (camping gear) it sags quite a bit. I put Sumos on to keep the rear from sagging but the ride is now much harsher off road. Go with the dakars if you carry

You’ll only need a carrier bearing if your driveline angles are off. Don’t just throw it on.

Tacoma’s have a double cardigan driveshaft, or a two piece. The ujoint and diff angles need to be relative to avoid vibration through the driveline.

There’s a few threads here about measuring angles. Some out of the factory are off a bit and simply lifting a vehicle can correct it. Other vehicles may been a combination of CB drop and axle shims to correct the angles.

Just throwing on a CB drop can make it worse sometimes. Similar to 2nd gens and front diff drops, they’re not necessary for every application.
