No worries, I think the Alum spacers will be more than durable enough.

The bed will rip apart before these fail, I think.

I feel like I totally ignored your post! Bad Clerk! Yeah, the TAT was pretty awesome. Made me want to go riding even more than I did before! I’m still in the process of cleaning up/servicing/adjusting/upgrading the 701. Hoping to get out on it in a week or two. Things pile up! Haha. Yamaha did such a good job with the WRR...getting a good dual sport out on the market in an acceptable price range. Great bike! Husky’s are great too...but you PAY for it up front.

It was a bummer to ditch the first attempt at the camper but I would have been bummed with the outcome in about 100 different ways so it made sense to bail. I think this new setup is going to be great...if I can ever get it finished! Haha!

I just installed a new overflow valve from LRA...it has helped on the one fill up I’ve done so far but time will tell. I like to test it on various pump styles. The bottom line is this: factory engineering is the best engineering. Any aftermarket part you put on your vehicle will be a compromise on some area. I’ve done a lot of modifying of vehicles over the years and have found this to be true always. Sometimes the compromise is install hassles, sometimes its a slight oddity during use, sometimes longevity suffers or maintenance is higher. But there is always something. It just comes down to whether the tradeoff is worth it. It usually is but I’m not sure with this tank. I still have my factory tank just in case...

I can look it up. It’s completely unavailable in the US. It’s a Mitsubishi part that is no longer sold in the US and us no updated part to replace it. I had to order it from LRA. It’s was about $40 shipped...for a $6 part.

Okay, let me know if you can find the link. I would like to have it before I install my tank.

It did but I broke it trying to install it. I had to sand down the outside of my new one some to get it to fit. They are a little fragile and the fill pipe on my tank had a nice big burr inside of it. It’s a welded seam pipe. That burr made it impossible for the valve to fit. There’s a lot to explain but I had to screw around with it a bit to get it all to fit together properly. And it only helped the issue. It’s still not perfect.

Okay, that makes me feel a little better about the tank. I'm waiting to install until I get my '63 springs to swap out at the same time. Figured it would be much easier to do while the tank is out since the front bracket is right up against the tank.

Getting bits of work on the camper done...little itty bits.

    7B30B491-F29D-4ACA-ADFB-2D7D68857D90.jpg
Started laying out the back window cut. No matter how many times I measure, level, square corners, cross measure...it still doesn’t add up! I’m going to have to come back to this fresh.

    70376E02-69CB-4329-8131-661740B67406.jpg
Also cleaning up the interior stub walls for install.

Ordered the T nuts for all of the exterior L track as well. Should be here mid next week. Starting to work on the cuts I need to make for that as well.

Also, a little worried about the door still. I think there is much too small of a gap between the door and the jamb. The build seal I have will likely be fully compressed when the door is closed...which is bad. It should be 25-50% compressed. I’m going to see about small bulb seal or maybe having to route a recess in the door edge for the bulb seal. Sigh... Still have to figure out the whole latch system too.

One thing about building a one off is you solve one issue to only create three more

Well, I gathered up what was left of my pride after not being able to make a simple rectangle and I came back stronger than ever! I think...

I got that window hole cut! Who knows if the window actually fits in there but I’ll wait to try until the camper is finished and on the truck to find out. No, no. I’ll smooth out the opening then test fit the window.

I think that huge window in the back is going to be sweet!

A bit more work done today.

    3ED90255-A020-4213-88F9-E83D0EBD8CC8.jpg
Cut all of the mounting strips of plywood and two of the L track lengths for the camper. Stainless T nuts will go in the back of the plywood then it’ll all be epoxy sealed and glassed onto the side/back/top of the camper. L track will bolt to that. Four more lengths of L track need to be cut.

    E7570644-8BBE-4703-9D8D-4C6AC13E204E.jpg
    Mmmmmm...L track

I have all of the 1/4-20 316 stainless t nuts already so I can just carry on as I feel motivated to do so.

I wish the Tacomas came with L tracks or even the track system used by Nissan. I've often thought about switching mine out for them just for the added strength.

It’s nice how many options there are for attachment to these. Plus it’s jist a slick system.

Finished cutting the L track and plywood backers for the track today. Two for the side, two for the top and two for the back.

Slowly making progress. Then I went and rode my dirtbike. :D
