    Clear! *ZAP*......we have a pulse!

I'll add my 2 cents. As long as they weren't swollen for more than 4 hours you're ok. Otherwise seek immediate medical attention.

OEM lug nuts are two-piece. The thin outer shell becomes deformed from impact sockets being slammed onto them over and over. Get some decent longer one piece lug nuts. You'll have to pay more for them, but the tire jockeys won't tear them up as easily.

Be careful, there's a ton of garbage lug nuts out there that will rust in no time.

Whatever you do, costco, discount tire, new nuts whatever, torque them when you get home. I lost a back wheel after going to Costco. At 70mph, downhill. What fun. No more Costco.

I discovered this problem (swollen nuts?) with my truck just after I bought my truck. Tried the factory lug wrench and it wouldn't go on most of the lug nuts. Like Roadie303, I too did towing and road service and have seen this problem before. Early GM vehicles used a lug nut with a tin cap over them, and over time, weather it be by rust or an impact gun with too much power, the tin cap over the lug nut would swell, making it next to impossible to get a lug wrench on the nut. I have since found a socket that fits the swollen nuts and have put in the truck until I get a chance to replace all the lug nuts. Am still looking for replacements.

Swollen lug nuts happened on dodge and Ford trucks where they put a shit chrome sleeve over a zinc plated nut. Corrosion gets in between and they swell. Seen it plenty. More likely what happened is their tech put a cheap/worn out socket on them and stripped them. Toyotas have solid lug nuts if they swell... you've done something special.

This is such a common problem. Don’t know what all the asshattery in this thread is about. I would say 80% of new cars suffer from this problem. Toyota’s included. Dodge has been the worse. I have a 21.5mm and a 22.5 mm socket for these dumb designs. Dorman makes a nice 1 piece lugnut. Highly recommend.
