Just installed hondo kit and love it. Used @Shellshock mod and trimmed some of the vent and now have full use of ac vent (open, doesn't completely close, but who needs it closed?). Dremmel drifted a couple times and i nicked the front of the vent, so there's a tiny scratch but only visible when closed.

Glad to see someone else did this too!

Honestly I’m surprised more people haven’t done this. It makes a huge difference and is fairly quick and easy.

Definitely, i was on the fence about the mount, until i saw your solution. Cheap, easy, no irreversible damage (just buy another vent).

I just pulled the trigger on the combo package for my phone and after reading both of you guys post about trimming the vent louvers, I'm definitely making that modification part of the install. I just need to be careful when removing the trim not rip it off to fast. I'll probably use some trim tools to help me with the removal. Thanks again guys.

Not a bad idea. The functional vent piece pops off of the trim panel easy enough.

Any reason not to get the "Big Squeeze" over the "Perfect Squeeze" for versatility? 95% of the time it will be my iPhone Plus, but tablet on occasion.

You don’t need any tools to get trim off, it pops off pretty easy. You’ll need something to separate the vent from the trim, I used a small flathead screw driver.

Been super happy with mine since doing this

Much easier than u think. Start at passenger side curve and give a moderate tug. Once a couple snaps r undone, the rest request minimal effort

I used one of the sanding drums. Nothing special, I just grabbed one of the ones that came in the kit I had.

I found the center point and ground that down then worked the curve out from there until it would fully clear the hardware for the hondo mount. Do the top one first then you can do the bottom one for a bit more movement.

OK guys. I have read through 26 pages and cannot find my answer. I am interested in the Vent Mount but I do not want the 1” Ram Mount. I am wanting to use a Garmin Nuvi with a diamond shaped plate that my nuvi that snaps on to. In other words, I’m looking for a diamond shape plate exactly like the one that comes in the Kit but has the Garmin nuvi ball on it and not the 1inch Ram ball. I want to be able to snap my nuvi right on to the vent mount. Thanks very much.
