Some people get bent out of shape about others going after higher education. There's some merit to it as well. I totally wish I had the forethought to not go to college and instead go to trade school. College has been of zero use to me other than the great friends and volunteer opportunities I maintained from my time there. Would have saved a lot of money and probably make more as well.

The environmentalism and NIMBYISM things do cross lines sometimes, like when people want wind turbines, just not, you know, in their back yard...

College isn't for everyone, but it's definitely for a lot of people.

The elitism goes both ways. Those who went to college think everyone should go to college, and those who didn't go to college think college is a waste of time/money.

Both are right, and both are wrong, too.

However, I tend to think that if you're unsure, you should at least go to a local JC and take some GE classes.

That's why they pay so much. Because people generally don't want them.

However, there is actually some science behind the idea that a wind turbine right in your back yard is a bad idea. the monotonous woosh woosh woosh you hear is actually pretty harmful to your brain.

However, most of the time, people just don't want to SEE them out their window, let alone HEAR them.

Definitely learned a lot there, unfortunately as any English, History, Art, Government, or basically any liberal art teacher will tell you...none of that makes money. It does make for a more well rounded person though, so I suppose I'm grateful for that. I'll probably go to a trade school for welding or automotive diag. I've got plenty of free time and boredom to spend haha.

Yeah I've heard that too, there are huuuuge wind farms in the Columbia river gorge a few hours from where I live, they are so far out nobody really lives there though

At least in your example there's an alternative (underground lines). It's just more expensive.

That's not a particularly common occurrence.

I miss the windfarms from the Columbia River gorge area, they were very pretty and man was that a good spot. Nice and windy

Yeah, I've seen those. There are huge farms down in So Cal too, the Coachella area.

I could’ve made great money if I would have went to a trade school for welding or some other oilfield related job, but when the oilfield dies again I’d probably end up moving.

I have friends and family that just went straight to the oilfield after graduation and now, some of them, make 120k+ sitting in an office chair working 4 days a week.

There’s definitely positives and negatives in both.
