Hi all. Just got myself a 09 Tacoma TRD offroad for a daily driver. Came to this forum looking at towing info. Heading out to moab in a few weeks. I've looked through the towing forum a bit and don't see to many guys towing other vehicles, I'm pretty sure I'll be maxing out the payload with my XJ on a car trailer. So I've got some more research to do.

Anyway, the taco is a 09 TRD offroad with a set of ATs on it. As far as plans for it... I'll loosely use the overland term, more than likely just draw some inspiration from those types of vehicles. I'm near the Chicago land so not to much overlanding to do, but I'd like to set it up for easy camping.

    Here's a pic

Here is the jeep I've been wheeling the last 10 years

Welcome to TW. Huge improvement over the Jeep. Taking just the Tacoma to Moab? That will be a blast for you, and the weather will not be "hot as hell" 24/7.

I couldn't help but say something about you towing the XJ, on a trailer, with the Tacoma. You will most likely be maxed out, or close to it. Not sure if you already have a trailer purchased, but I would see if any of the members on TW are local, have a car hauler, and test out what you want to do. If not, I would rent a trailer just to see.

Towing Jeeps, XJ or not, is rather scary lol. I’ve got a 2 door 4x4 manual XJ, and I’ve towed my LJ on my 20ft car hauler and it was WAY too much.

I probably won't wheel this till at least when it's not the banks vehicle. Lol although I have been watching a couple YouTube videos of tacomas out there.
As far as towing I'll probably end up renting a car dolly. To keep the weight down.and take it easy.
