Guys- my dealer told me the diff howl on my truck is the first reported in the region, as per the regional service director guy. The region contains multiple metro areas. They said they've never heard of this howl issue before.

True or not (let's not argue that here), you guys have to go report this to dealers and push for a complete fix. Not 50% better, not 70% better. But a complete fix.

You'll be helping to ensure that new Tacoma purchasers won't have to deal with what we have been dealing with.

I have that sound in my 2018, but it isn't very loud. It is just on the edge of hearing....windows down I can just slightly hear it. Sunroof open and I can't.

Its often mistaken for the LCA wind noise (fixed with plugs). But it's a totally different thing.

I'm just amazed that after three years they're still selling trucks that howl. How is this even possible?

Someone will go into a Toyota dealer tomorrow, buy a truck, drive it home, and be shit outta luck. Sorry sucker. Now you have to listen to an irritating noise every time you go anywhere. Can it be fixed, they ask?? Meh, maybe.

I am blown away that Toyota still hasn't fixed this issue and that you guys still own these horrible trucks. I dumped mine and got an off road 4runner, lifted it, drive it all over, and I have had 0 issues. I'm just glad I can now not waste my time dealing with some poorly built in truck. It still has a horrid engine and transmission too, don't forget that.

Oh I had one and I spent forever dealing with Toyota. These trucks look so badass, but wtf is up with the issues. Mine used to try to stall out, it was an auto...

I’m glad you like your T4R. We are currently considering one as a family vehicle but I wish they had a more updated dash design. Same with the Lexus GX. I’ve also heard a few guys saying their T4R has the rear diff howling issues and wonder if there is any correlation to the howl in the Taco.

I haven't hear a howl. I know it has a different rear end than the TRDOR Tacoma. The 2019 4runner does get an update radio and all like the Tacoma so there is that at least haha.

Are you sure about the radio? That would be great, not that my Taco radio is great, but the larger screen for my middle aged eyes!

Edit: Maybe next year (we say that a lot about Toyota). The website shows the same radio. Oh well....

I wish some techs would chime in because if that’s the case then that means this is more than just a noise. We may be looking at something mechanical.

I just got back from looking at 4runners at the dealer. There were sixty-two (62!) 2018 Tacoma's there.

Looks like they're listing them for $2-3k under msrp. That's about what I paid for mine a couple months ago.

Am I imagining this? Or did you read the same thing? Seems I recall reading that in multiple posts/threads.
