I haven't had a chance to get the LED strips replaced yet, but I do have the Xenon Depot brand bulbs now. Looking at those and the Phillips side by side, I don't believe the same issue could occur again. I fully intend to use the XD bulbs after I get my LED strips replaced.

Just so you know Phillips doesn’t make H11 HID bulbs, they only make capsules. What you would have is a Re-Based bulb which means someone manually put the Philips bulb capsule on “some” H11 base.

I was probably one of the first ones to have that problem with the 4300 Phillips bulb that fried my pass side DRL with little help from Zenon depot , they never had that issue before and thought I screwed something up. After I got involved in this post I received an E mail from Steve at Xenon Depot Nice guy and very knowledgeable. He explained what the issue was after much diagnostic work. He explained that a limited batch of the 4300 bulbs from their vender were defective and they thought they were shorting out the DRL. He sent me their own Xenon Depot 5000k bulbs that have a different base , no metal and promised that would solve the issue . Received them yesterday and installed them today. I am happy to say he was right. They work as they should with no DRL issues as they are working as they should now. I will update should anything change but I think the problem is solved You may want to send Steve an e mail for his advise. Good Luck!

This is reassuring, I was about to pull the trigger on a set of HID's with 4300k philips until I saw this post. Going with the 5k bulb as well.

Thanks for the update and glad to hear everything is working now. As previously mentioned we've never experienced this issue before so we took the step of testing and installing a Philips 4300K HID bulb in a 2018 Tacoma and that's when we discovered what was happening. We have since fixed this issue so the Philips 4300K no longer have this issue.

So how was that issue eliminated. are the new Phillips 4300 bulbs now set in Plastic base similar to your Xenon depot 5000 bulb, or totally new design. I would like to at some point go back to a new version of the 4300 bulb if the metal base issues is resolved.

In short, a *VERY* small batch of bulbs didn't have sufficient insulating silicone at the base of the bulb (where the wire connects to the electrode) which caused the bulb to arc against the DRL. Aside from obviously bringing this to the manufacturer's attention, we also had them switch to a silicon with stronger isolation properties.

Excellent, very happy to know that the XD 5000K seems they will resolve the issue. @fxrs, are they holding fine so far, any issue with the LED strip ? I will install mine this weekend and will post an update here. Thanks guys !

    A few minor things...
I have TRS 35w kit for my 2016 and haven't had a problem since install 2 years ago! Drivers side connector is plugged in only.

    Keep up the great work!

I installed the Xenon depot HID kit with the 5000K bulbs a week ago, No Relay harness required. I cannot believe the improvement in lighting compared to the OEM halogens which I would compare to a 3 D cell flashlight compared to the 5000K hid light kit . All is well no more DRL issues, could not be happier with the Xenon XenonDepot HID Kit Now Thanks Steve

Not 100% sure if this is your only issue, but a couple years back I had similar problems that all stemmed from poor ground wire placement.

Sorry to hear that but yes, that is the only issued we've ever had with the Philips rebased HID bulbs. Did you reach out to us when this happened? If not, send us a PM or email so we can help you out.

I just purchased the 5k kit. Just to clarify, your DRL issue was fixed with the 5k bulbs? So it never really fried the DRLs?

No, the original 4300k Phillips bulbs were defective and one had a voltage leak that did short out the LED DRL strip and had to have the headlight assembly replaced on my dime Over $1000 installed by dealer Thanks to the original Xenon Depot in Canada who would not take responsibility for their product.

I've also been running the xenon depot 5k bulbs just fine now as well.

I am having the same issue currently, just installed the HID 4300k bulbs and passenger side DRL went out. Now its hard telling if i should return them or just buy another headlight and try it again.

Also the headlights dont always come on. Anyone else having this issue with them?

After the Led was burnt out on my truck by the Phillips 4300 bulb I didn't want to take a chance on losing another one at a dealer cost of several hundred dollars each so I just went with the Xenon Depot 5000K bulbs and have had no issues since. Good Luck

I've seen another member on some other thread say they were having issues with them coming on. No issues with DRL burning out though. I thought I read Xenon Depot was bought by some other company so maybe different ballasts now?
