hey guys has anybody installed 6.5 inch speakers in there 03 double cab? I have 100 watts going to each speaker. There are 4. I have 5x7 polks in there buy I’m pretty sure I am slowing blowing them up. I want to put speaker that handles 100 Watts rms. Can’t find many if any options. Any suggestions. All the ones I want are 6.5 i dont know if there is a certain adapter that works for our trucks. Any suggestions help.

Unfortunately it's not gonna be a plug and play thing. Good news is it can be done. It's just gonna take some work.

I started a thread on it a while back. Maybe this will give you a better idea what you're up against. My attempt is stalled at the moment, but if I get my truck back together in the next couple of days I'm gonna start messing with it again.

I managed to get a pair 6" SEAS U16RCY-P in there which do the job nicely. I'm giving them up to around 3x rated power and they just make me smile all day long - really awesome set of drivers. I'm not playing them that low though - crossed at 100 Hz at 12 dB/oct.

Sucks that we don't have many 5x7 choices. It's just not a well-supported size. But if I were gonna stick in another 5x7 it would be the JL C5-570. I heard too many instances of the ID 5x7 burning the coil. And those are really the only 2 'good' 5x7 midwoofers on the market to my knowledge.

As for the drivers themselves, what's your budget?

I was looking at the JL Audio C2-570X too. But crutchfield says they won’t fit the Read Door. I don’t want to spend more that 300 bucks a pair. For right now anyway. I was also looking at just throwing in some alpine 5.25 type r coaxial front and back but crutchfield says that those won’t fit up front either. I’ll read up on your thread

Direct fit is gonna be tough in this truck. If you don't mind cutting up a cutting board it's pretty easy to make a set of adapters to work with a 5.5 - 6" driver. Just use your factory speakers, if you still have them, to trace a template & cut it out with a jigsaw. Then cut the hole for the new driver. It'll be way sturdier than any adapter you go buy too.

I think the JLs will fit, but you maybe need to trim the tabs.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
I run (2) sets of JL Audio ZR650-CSi in my 02 ext cab. Yes they won't be direct fit but they will fit with a adapter. My installers made adapters for them so the back of the speakers clear the window tracks and had to trim the inside of the stock door panel grills. The back we just made a 6.5" piece out of 1/2" board that fit over the 5x7" opening but cut it out as 6.5" opening for the ZR's. I think Crutchfield list them not fitting because they focus more on direct bolt on. With some time and work you can make almost any speakers fit the opening.

Sweet thanks for the tip. I figured you can make almost anything fit. I just wanted to do a direct bolt up if possible. I saw some morel ultra tempo 502 integra 5.25 inch speakers that would fit. They have good reviews. Anybody have any thoughts on these speakers?

I have a 5 year old jvc arsenal deck. It could be upgraded. If your gonna run an amp and sub you need a aftermarket stereo. There really not to much money.

Are you running them off the player or you have an amp?

I have 100 watts to each speaker. I’ve heard they sound amazing still not aplified by a lot of power. But obviously they sound way better aplified. Also the tweeters fit right into the stock location. Pop me in and bend the bracket a little and they fit perfect.
