It is much more than just the weight of the tire that will reduce fuel mileage. Un-sprung weight increases, as in larger tires and heavier wheels, are only one factor. Going to a larger tire in effect changes the optimal ratio between engine RPMs and vehicle speed too. Also, with a larger tire the vehicle is also higher in the wind, effecting how the air moves over it.

what he said. Also keep in mind a more aggressive tread pattern will hurt MPG. I was concerned about weight also and went with Duratracs...nice all around tire that won't kill your mpgs. Peace.
