I’m sticking to CB (Citizens Band). Use any of the 40 channels you’d like without worrying about some dork hunting you down.

I mean, fuck, we’re talking about speaking with a person 20’ away from you.

If I wanted to, and I 100% do not, talk to someone hundreds, or even thousands, of miles away, I’d use this new fangled thing called the “internet”. Maybe you’ve heard of this.

Was reading the comments and some people were saying yes, someone posted this - https://www.federalregister.gov/d/2017-17395/p-22

Which basically says if it’s under 2 watts no license is required

    Thanks Joe.

I just want a radio I can mount on my 4wheelers to be able to talk to each other without having a walkie talkie bouncing around lol.

From page three of the operators manual:

    6FEFD116-2569-400D-ACB8-B43F737D27E4.jpg

But I’m not quite sure how up-to-date this operators manual statement is, compared to any current FCC rule.

@Subway4X4 lets say you did come across someone using a radio without a license.

    A. How would you find out they don’t have a license.

    B. How would you/the gubmint know where he was to give him fines. I mean it’s just some guy in his yard with a walkie talkie, it’s not obvious like look at me I’m doing doughnuts in the high school football field

I think they can track the signal. My old high school bus driver told us that they actually can track the radio signal from each bus

    A. FCC assigns a call sign to all licensed radio operators.

Likely the guy is using the walkie-talkie without transmitting a call sign at the required time and interval.

Or if he is using a call sign, then it can be verified against a database.

    B. There are licensed radio operators that make this a hobby and a competition to find unlicensed operators. My guess is that they can triangulate a transmission to locate the individual using transmission signal strength to determine distances at different geographical points, then simple math can pinpoint the transmission.

Hey guys, I’m not an expert in HAM radio or FRS/GMRS/MURS or any other radio airwave communications.

Hell, I just got my HAM license last year coz my brother kept pestering me to get it. I got a GMRS License many years ago and I probably have to renew it.

There’s a reason that there’s a license requirement for many things in this country. Without it, there would be poor control of resources and personnel.

I believe that an FCC radio license is required in order to control the radio frequencies so many people can use these frequencies in a organized fashion. Without clogging/ hampering emergency, police, military, commercial radio, business, aviation, marine and other frequencies.

It all boils down to integrity of a person.

I would like to think that the people that are driving giant tractor-trailers around me on the highway have their CDL, that the dude harvesting a moose has their tag and license, the guy redoing my kitchen has his contractors license and that the surgeon operating on my eyeball has his medical license.

If you’re required to get a license, then get a license.

Or smoke signals if you’re in remote country with no cell or wi-fi signal.
