This should be a fun thread!

    So far for me
    • 40k miles: High mount stop lamp wiring corroded from leaking lamp. Toyota would not replace out of warranty, fixed with MESO Customs Super Ultimate 3rd Brake Light
    • 42k miles: Steering angle sensor failure. Dealer just quoted $1,200 to replace sensor and spiral cable.
    How about you?

What were the symptoms you had with your steering angle sensor? If you don’t mind me asking

dealer refused my 3rd brake light within warranty. 35 months 33k miles. had to go to another one that processed the warranty without questions. hoping that nothing crazy will break after the warranty period.

Do as a you wish but this isn't a thread asking for the hundreds of thousands of problem free trucks on the road right now.

I had a stability warning on the cluster every startup and I couldn't perform a zero point calibration.

How much is it? When one sensor replacement costs $1200 I think it could have been worth it

I got the extended 7yr/120,000km warranty.

I'd rather pay for it in case I ever need it.

Oh Man! I have never done a zero calibration on my steering angle stabilizer functional stick...at least not that I am gonna admit to.

If I am not mistaken, it is a sensor in the steering wheel hub that tells the TRAC / TCS / ABS system what steering angle you have the wheel at. The 'puter compares that to what the yaw and wheel speed sensors are saying. It uses that info to decide if you are slipping / sliding or just cornering hard before it sets off the TCS system.

Most everything in the steering wheel is connected by a ribbon cable that looks like a clock spring. The steering angle sensor would be also, but like the ABS tone rings, it has to read the angle as well as allowing for three or so turns lock to lock.

    Correct.
(When playing with our traction control systems awhile back , I ran several bench tests to better understand the system. A fun one was to jack up all 4 corners on jack stands. Start up and get the truck speedo going like 10-20 mph.
Turn the wheel. So the truck knows you turned the wheel from the aforementioned sensor, but the yaw rate sensors indicate no turn... so computer assumes you are sliding, so it fires off the brakes on the truck side you are turning toward to try to make the truck actually do what you are telling the steering wheel.. it's pretty cool.)

(But you can only do it for a minute before the computer figures out that you are tricking it, and throws a code for yaw rate sensor failure... because the yaw rate shows zero even though you are driving 20mph and turning the wheel back and forth like a madman)...

That's excellent. It is amazing how much logic is in there just thinking of how the computer indirectly decides if tires are slipping and / or sliding without kicking off the system in otherwise normal driving. The system in the Taco has been my favorite of any that I have sampled so far. Very un-intrusive to a reasonable point.
