Do you want to do the job right? Hydraulic lines break down internally over time. Just like brake lines- because they too are hydraulic lines.

Don't let that dissuade you from going aftermarket. You've had one bad experience.

By all means, don't be a fan of that brand- but not all aftermarket is junk. Point of fact- Toyota doesn't actually make balljoints, or most parts. Like most manufacturers, they buy parts from foundries and other manufacturers- some of which are not only OEM suppliers, but also aftermarket part providers (like Moog).

I'd be more inclined to install a filter, as the last item on the return line to the pump reservoir.

Magnafine are the type to use. I have them on all of my vehicles (except my 97 Tacoma, haven't gotten into that yet).

By all means install a cooler as well, they are seldom a bad idea. But if I had to chose between cooler and filter, I'd install a filter every time. They really do break the wear chain. My transmission fluid and power steering fluids on my other vehicles look like they just came out of the bottle.

Pardon, still learning the Toyota lingo- what are "mirrors in 3k4?" I would have thought that was a light temperature scale rating, but you're talking mirrors...

Saw others install a CB in the ashtray and did the same. I wanted mine a bit deeper in the tray slot and cut the back plaatic. Too close to the shifter for my liking but other than that it was a super easy job.
    NOW for tires!

Oh I know, the thing is I struggled with that SOB for at least 2 days.. Most of the time it’s not going to be worth buying aftermarket stuff for me to save 20-50$ here and there. My time is very valuable to me, I know that’s not the case for everyone but I’m a pretty busy person. I did however buy my timing belt kit on eBay (per Timmy the toolmans recommendation.. lol)

Does anyone have any experience using a non oem carrier bearing? My drive shaft sounds like a helicopter and I'm too broke to afford the Toyota part. Is the job easy enough to do that even if a cheapo one only lasts a month or two no big deal?

That's a good little unit. I have one in my XJ. Make sure, as with any radio, that you use quality coax and set the SWR properly.

I'll look into it, but I'm pretty sure heat is what is killing them. Wheeling with heavy tires makes the reservoir very hot.

Spicer part number 211750-1X is the part you seek. They make the entire driveshaft for the 2nd gens so I would be safe to assume its a good quality part. Mine should be here next week. $77 shipped from Drivetrain America.
Edit: Amazon says it wont fit, but Drivetrain America does and lists the OEM part number as a cross reference. Ill take advice from a driveshaft company before I do some 3rd world tech support guy from Amazon.

Oh Viper ones are cool. I have one I plan to install with remote start and remote power window operation.

If it has some no-name module from the early 2000’s, yeah. It’s not good.

It’s not that bad, I did it in my driveway, garage and my uncles shop last winter.

I didn’t replace mine, but I couldn’t find one local,

    Probably not a bad idea.

Yup I've got a Clarion/Ungo alarm that is made by DEI, same mfg that makes Viper. I love all the cutomizable features but mainly it's the remote start that I love. Love getting into the truck with the AC already cold on hot summer days.

Don't need a new stake nut. I replaced mine only because I had added it to an order I placed for other parts and it didn't cost much. Otherwise it's perfectly fine to reuse it.
