When I was buying the truck I did a visual inspection and didn't see anything worse than this but I can just assume that the dealer threw it on a lift and had a more through viewing.

Myn is a 09 went for the inspection in Duncan, BC. They said because there were no holes they only can do the coating. Even sent pics to Toyota and it got denied for a replacement even though every weld on my frame is rusted and cracking. Plus down the frame the inside welds have rusted through to the other side. So is their plan to just cover it up. 20180828_185615.jpg 20180828_185603.jpg

My frame looks pretty similar to IgorSchneider's. It's been coated once, but is starting to flake pretty badly. I've crawled underneath, and it's not pretty, but seems to be solid. The only major defect that I can see is the lower part of the C-Channel is delaminating or separating. I have an inspection scheduled for tomorrow at a dealer in Calgary, I'm hoping for a new frame, I'd like to upgrade the truck further, but it doesn't make sense when the frame is behaving like a best before date. The funny thing is that I pulled out the floor of my 1961 Land Rover on Sunday night to do the clutch and the frame on that thing (regarded by LR guys to be a major weak point) is in waaaaay better shape then my Taco's frame.

I'll try to get some photos of the frame and update the thread with my outcome.

Same here. I've had the coating applied a while back and it just made shit worse. It's flaking horribly.
Still no holes and passes hammer tests but the sandwiched c-channel is separating notably near the muffler and only held together by the rivets.

Local dealer here (Toyota of Seattle) told me that even if it separated >10mm it wouldn't qualify for replacing because it's not a hole. Wtf

They also told me that zero of their inspections were approved for replacement and they have no experience replacing frames and would actually farm out the work to a friggen body shop.

Was pretty horrified when I heard that

That's why I'd started this thread - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...info-with-documentation.564836/#post-18546617 . I have a feeling that some dealers see this as a pain or a distraction while others recognize it as a valid revenue stream, especially if they get good at it and find efficiencies. If I can find the latter type of dealer they might look a little harder or endorse a frame replacement it's marginal.

I dropped my truck off for inspection at Heninger in Calgary this morning. The service writer was well informed, everything we discussed was consistent with what I've read in the Canadian class action settlement. The only question that he couldn't answer was what if my frame passed today, but developed holes in the future. So I'm not sure if I'd have recourse a month or year in the future. He did say that they bang around the frame pretty hard, basically saying that if it passes today, it's not going to rust out to the point of failing any time soon.

The current backlog at that dealer is about 15 units, with each one taking 2-5 days, based on that information, it would take 6 weeks to 3 months to get the work done.

As mentioned before, we get a rental for up to one week.

Good to know. Also still waiting on news for mine. It's been about a month and a half for me. Hopefully it will be soon.

I was told already that I was getting the replacement but it will either be in October or in the spring according to the dealer.

    Here are some pics

Wow, that's pretty bad. Was your frame previously coated with the CRC?

I just spoke with my dealership, and my frame failed. Yippee!

I'd poked and banged around with it and couldn't find any problems, so it sounds like they go pretty deep with the inspection. For those interested, it sounds like the point of failure was the rear cab mounts.

They'll coordinate with Toyota Canada, get it in the queue, then schedule the swap.

Yea it was. I actually bought the truck in July and from inspecting it briefly while laying on the ground, it had that nice CRC. The seller even provided the paperwork showing that it had been coated 6months prior. After a full carwash, I got underneath and noticed the frame was rotten near the cats.

I do winter work in the oil sands, so it either has to happen before freeze up (mid-November) or during spring thaw. I'm out for up to 3 weeks at a time, so a one week rental won't work. I can always use a company truck, but I consider the Tacoma to be revenue stream.

Unless you think it will break in half before spring, that would be the best option. Get through one more winter with the scrap frame, means the truck as a whole gets an additional year of life at the far end.

Agreed. My only concern right now is whether or not I should rustproof it before winter? I know they'll change most of what's underneath but I'd like to protect the body panels and small crevices.

Nothing stopping you from hitting it with oil/wax/tar/whatever. If they've already got on record that you get a new frame, then they're not going to reverse that because you are looking after it.
