I know nothing about the military and am too old to learn anything now.

As far as your Tacoma, I'll take it and maintain it. You can have it back in 4 to 6 years or sooner. I'll do this at no cost to you. You just have to bring the truck to me.

Rah... misery loves company...come suck today's dick with the rest of us lol.

The infantry is where the warrior culture is at. You'll meet, work with and lead some of the best people in the military. With an ASVAB that high you'd get places pretty quick, especially in the infantry. You might have to suffer through a couple years of learning your place, but so what, at least you could find solace in not being a POG... (i jest... sort of...lol)

On a serious note, in today's infantry we need guys that are smart grunts. You can't be a fucking idiot and be entrusted with the lives of 12 other Marines on a patrol, it doesn't work out too well. Knowing how to employ your squad and all your supporting assets, such as mortars, arty, and close-air support, takes some serious smarts; doing it under the stress of combat, takes someone who is dedicated and disciplined enough to learn the craft inside and out. The Marine Corps is definitely evolving very quickly. Lots on new technology to utilize on the battlefield. Come shoot people in the face and blow some shit up.

If you're set on Army I'd look into the 18-Xray pipeline.

(EDIT: Disclaimer, I'm on a moto high right now. Next week this motivation wave might come crashing down, and then my attitude will change to "fuck this shit, I'm getting the fuck out.") Every job has its ups and downs, you just gotta do you. As far as working alongside your fellow Americans, I truly believe there is no better place than in the infantry.

Yup, myself an another friend from my company both went on to med school(I have yet to graduate I’m on break till my daughter is a bit older)and my best friend from the corps went in to be a programmer at Northrop Grunnam. So infantry isn’t just dummies who can pack weight and shoot straight. You’ll serious make life long friends. It just sucks at first till you get some salt on your boots but after that it’s great. The infantry helped me find the discipline that I needed in my life to achieve my goals.

It’s a good time for sure, I wouldn’t go back and trade it for anything. You’ll also put a serious beating on your body that becomes more apparent as you get older.

I was a prior Navy recruiter, so if you have any questions about the actual enlistment process feel free to ask. Picking your job is different from branch to branch. I know when I was recruiting 2012-2015 if you wanted to join the air force you basically had to sign up without a guaranteed job, they had you pick 4 and you would get one of them. Before recruiting I did the navy nuclear thing, and that's what I'm doing now on the civilian side. The job can be stressful, but the pay is good.

So heres what you do....go to the recruiter and tell him you've reconsidered. Talk to the nearest Air Force recruiter. We have better food, 4 star hotels on deployments, hotter women, and jobs that relate to stuff on the outside. Whatever you do....don't go aircraft maintenance. Just don't. Go finance, or medical, or if you wanna shoot shit then go security forces or EOD.

Seriously though, If you need any guidance or have questions feel free to PM me. The military, regardless of branch, is a great opportunity that you wont regret.

I am retiring in 2 weeks after a 24 year Air Force career. First of all for those who stated in previous posts that You don't work hard in the AF are WRONG! It depends on the job of course, that's why some call it the "chair force".

I am a C-130 mechanic with my A&P and I can assure you I have spent plenty of 16+ hour days in 125+ degree temperatures and plenty below freezing. Sometimes it sucks but as others have stated it does teach you the fortitude to take care of business no matter what which helps later in life.

I am not an expert on the other services but if I were you I would seriously LISTEN to what others have said about what services to join and for sure get a GUARANTEED JOB no matter what you choose.
No offense to other services but from my understanding (not experience) the Air Force and Navy (maybe Coast Guard) will treat you most like a human being after training.

There are no doubt kick ass jobs in all of the services but for sure you need to figure out 2 things. 1. What really interests you! If you take what the recruiter gives you as an open job you may hate life for 4 to 6 years then get out.
    2. This has been said countless times here but find a job you REALLY like AND can use after you get out. There are a lot of jobs (like blowing shit up) that are kick ass while you are in but most likely not useful after you get out except for prepping.

With all of that said I have seen many ups and downs in my time in the Air Force. I have been on some really cool and rewarding TDY's and been on 5 semi crappy deployments and 1 really awesome one to Afghanistan as an Air Advisor.

Your choice is ultimately up to you but I will ask you to thing long term, dig deep, and really think about what you want to do 10 years, 15, 20 years from now. You have to remove your emotion and think logically with zero bias about this because whatever you want to do now, the thought will always creep in like the devil clouding your thoughts.

    THINK LONG TERM!!!

If you have any questions please feel free to PM me, good luck in your decision, and thank you for your service! You WILL become the 1 percent that defends our country!

EOD is good, because they are part of the Civil Engineering Squadron, which gets the hook up on tent AC and best locations in tent city. And while on my remote tour in Korea, yes it was a nice 12 month vacation. I was working swimming pool maintenance during the summer.
