ECT will definitely affect your MPG. Cruise control also affects your MPG. Best MPG is received out of both of those. :) I’m not sure what your plans are or how much weight you plan on adding to your truck/Wheels and Tires, but it sounds like you would extremely benefit from the Tune. Plus it’s under $1k. You will be extremely happy with the results. Then if you absolutely need the gears, then I’d go that route, especially if you aren’t running 35” or 37” tires.

definitely staying on my 33’s but plan to do steel front bumper with winch later on, i always read ppl who regear are on 35s it bigger. would it be too much low end for 33s? and does the tune or regear improve mpg?

This might be a good thread to hide my newb question in since there is lots of talk about getting the latest TSB. I haven't noticed any sluggishness in my truck, I got it a few weeks ago and the dealer had just gotten it themselves I believe. Is there any way to definitively know whether I have the TSB or not from the factory short of taking it into the dealer?

Modded it so much it turned into a 4Runner
Gears will help with the added weight. Running armor and 33's puts a lot of stress on the CV axles when in 4wd on stock gears. Regearing will reduce that stress.

I am currently running 33” tires with a 4” Lift and my setup is perfect. I love it. Truck drives smooth. However, I will be switching to bigger tires and a higher lift so most likely will be making the change.

There is. Toyota dealer can read your ecu and tell you the code. Definitive? Depends on your trust level if you didn’t witness and read it off the computer or report. Also, it’s possible to read it yourself with correct software and OBD2 plug.

Got it, so nothing like a date of production that got the latest firmware installed at the factory?
