    Hey everyone,
Getting ready to head out on a week long trip to the western slope, and Arizona to check out the Grand Canyon. I have a truck tent to sleep in (we likely will hit up a hotel somewhere in the middle to freshen up and re-acclimate to society and clean them stinky arm pits for our anniversary!) otherwise, I have some basics for heading out...sleeping bag, cooler, BEER, water purifier and water container. I was going to grab some dehydrated food...looks like I'll need to grab a stove and a pan to boil more water for cooking...

What else do you all use while "roughing it"? Other than that, what other normal type supplies would you recommend?

You mentioned beer, what else do you need exactly?

We are headed out for a two week trip to Utah and Arizona as well. It really just depends on how you like to camp and what you want.

We bring Coleman stoves and lanterns. Big cooler of food with all of our normal food to eat. Tons of trail snacks. Usual hiking supplies like sunblock, deet, etc. camping dishes, cookware, tons of water, sleeping pad, travel pillows, tent, sleeping bag, etc etc

You got plenty of room for real food, steaks, burgers, bacon. I have a fold up charcoal grill that I love.

Well, we want to hit Gunnison, Curecanti then "meander" southwest towards Grand Canyon. From what I've seen, there aren't any fires in our path. I was out of the country for the last month, but 60 hour weeks for the both of us...we need to get away. I wanted to get a water system on the truck, and lack of connectivity didn't allow for that.

I like the fire extinguisher idea though for sure. Thanks.

    And of course, more beer!

Camping was a success. The little truck tent was effective, only used the rain fly one night (for privacy), as we were in a campground near Grand Canyon, and it was packed. We had a great time, Friday was our anniversary, and was in a lovely little campground near Pagosa Springs. Lower Piedra River about 30' feet from our spot. Last weekend for the year at that campground, they were about half full of the 15 spots.

My favorite spot from the week was an off the map place in Southeast Utah. Drove down a cliff road, turned on to a wash board road, and found the most isolated spot I could have ever imagined. I saw one car all night, and they didn't come our way. Sunset was gorgeous, stars were out, and we could see for miles in every direction...well except for the 150' high mound to our east, which I climbed and took a picture of as well. Just thought I'd share.

Any chance you can share this campground next to Lower Piedra River?

Lower Piedra Campground...37°14'34.8"N 107°20'34.0"W...It is (according to Google maps) 22 miles west of Pagosa Springs on 160. Take a right at road 621 (just past the Piedra Store). You'll see a sign to turn left to go to the campground. It is about a mile back on that road.

Place is closed for the season now, not sure when in the spring they open back up. Cute little place to plant wheels for at least a night, we'll be back.
