It’s time to mount the most important accessory onto my Taco. My old siege engineering KONG TRAIN HORN. This horn was on my last Tacoma and was a blast! The horn is well over 10 years old and still works great. The horn has been missed this last 18 months that I’ve owned my 3rd gen, my friends haven’t missed it!

Just so everyone is clear and doesn’t freak out, the train horn is only fired at people with strong hearts, no kids in strollers, no elderly people, and no dogs! It’s also great for construction sites.

    Back to the fun.

Here is the Kong. Previously it was mounted where the stock spare was and I mounted spare in the truck bed.

There is no place to stuff this thing. Time to get to work.

I never liked the storage pockets in the bed. There is prime real estate for mounting things in the rear fender areas.

Here is a loose mock up. I disassembled the horns, they would hit the spring shackle if left in the triangle shape. Train horns sound great when aimed at the ground, almost shakes it lol.

    From underneath,

I had to drill and tap the horn I removed.

Next up I’ll make a cover plate out of stainless for the storage box door. The horns will bolt to it.

The stock horns have woke some folks up. They are pleasantly good considering what has been on our past cars and my bikes. I have wanted something like this though.

One question, why not in the open area between the grille and radiator? There is a bunch of space there.

Saving that space for the inter cooler!

Just kidding, I have a winch in there and I might put a large tranny cooler in later also.

Getting closer. I made a mounting plate out of 3/16 aluminum. I’ll see how long the rubber hose last, easy to keep some spares in truck. The line can’t be ridged due to everything being assembled and inserted separately.

Finished train horn today. I tack welded nuts onto mounts and bolted everything up. I will counter sink some all head bolts later on to finish it off.

    It’s loud.

It would be really tempting to hit that when people are crossing unguarded train tracks.

It’s fun running parallel to an Amtrak and going back and forth with the Enginer, they give a thumbs up out the window.
