So I would like to get a Hondo Garage un-holy mount and it has this 1" ram ball mount and I am trying to figure out the cleanest way to attach my garmin gps to this mount. The ball is a different size than garmins ball so I can't just mount directly and I don't want to spend $100 on the hondo garage tablet mount if I don't have to. My google-fu is crap and only yielded ball to ball solutions. Thanks for the help!

Personally I prefer Slip Grip products. For my Hondo product, I used Slip Grip's ball and eliminated the intermediary arm that RAM mounts demand. It'll make sense if you think about the ball/socket requirement. It just required me to make the piece like you're showing on your original post, but with the Slip Grip ball instead of RAM.

    You could try

    (all available on Amazon)

RAM MOUNTS (RAP-SB-238FU) Composite Snap Link Diamond Base (will need to shim to attach to the unholy mount)
RAM MOUNTS (RAP-SBA-RGU) Snap Link Arm to Garmin

I ended up using the 1" Ram ball that you have pictured.
    and
Ram Mount Composite Double Socket Arm for 1-Inch Ball Bases (for some extra height)
    and
i.Trek 25mm ball to 17mm ball joint adapter compatible with Garmin mounts

The 17mm adapters all seem to fit loosely in the Garmin GPS mount and does move easily if bumped.

Hmm, I wonder if someone would be able to just 3D print me something exactly like the ram ball I have pictured but in the garmin ball size. The rest of these don’t seem to be a cleaner solution over what I’m already using (garmin bean bag mount on the dash)

    No need to
Buy that mount. Ram mount x grip is like 33 bucks on Amazon and the unholey mount with the ram ball mount is 40

The 17mm is too small for Garmin. I use silicon rubber tape wrapped around 17mm ball.
    Work better than expected.

3D printing smooth spheres is not easy (or cheap). You need the resin (SLA) or powdered plastic (SLS) process to make a nice part. Unless you want to glue to halves together, then filament (FDM) could work.

Why I like my approach is because my mobile device attached directly to the ball, and eliminates the intermediary arm. It makes for a tidier package. Like I said though I had to make my own custom size ball mount from the ball that came with my Slip Grip. Very tidy.

Thanks, this is what I’m looking for in my final solution.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and advice!
