I wonder if this has anything to do with it:

    https://www.autoblog.com/2018/09/24/siriusxm-to-buy-pandora-streaming-music/

Satellite radio firm Sirius XM will buy music streamer Pandora Media in a $3.5 billion all-stock deal, as it seeks to build scale to battle heavyweight streaming rivals Spotify and Apple Music.

Sirius XM, controlled by media mogul John Malone's Liberty Media Corp, has built a name supplying more than 175 channels to car drivers, but has largely trailed Pandora and Spotify Technology in mobile and streaming content.

Monday's deal gives the pair a market value of about $34 billion, topping Spotify's $31.2 billion, and follows through on Sirius' purchase of a 15 percent preferred-stock stake in Pandora for $480 million last year.

Shares in Pandora, which has posted losses for at least the past eight quarters, initially soared 18.4 percent to $10.75 in premarket trading, topping an offer value of $10.05 based on Sirius' Friday closing price.

Sirius shares, however, fell 5 percent to $6.63 as investors worried the company had overpaid.

The deal, worth $2.68 billion at that offer price, is expected to generate more than $7 billion in expected pro-forma revenue in 2018. Analysts said the two businesses were largely complementary.

"SIRI cannot offer on-demand radio, and cannot offer customization, and Pandora offers both," said Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Securities in Los Angeles.

"Sirius can merge Pandora's radio business into its satellite subscription business, and can also begin to offer on-demand to its large installed base of satellite subscribers."

Pandora shareholders will receive a fixed-exchange ratio of 1.44 newly-issued SiriusXM shares for each share they hold.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2019.

More than likely, but the other story about Android Auto being available soon on ENTUNE seems like good news. There's a small chance (unlikely, but small) Toyota will push that with the update in November, seeing as how the announcement for Android Auto support is listed as being in October. If not, maybe a newer Toyota Radio that will fit the Tacoma will have it in the near future...:fingerscrossed:

well i remember with ford's sync system you needed a new usb module to get carplay to work. not sure on android auto. it's possible they can get AA to work without any new hardware and just a software update. maybe the usb module will be needed to get carplay to work.

worse case, if the headunit form factor doesn't change for 2020 and it supports both, we'd have a factory alternative to upgrade too....maybe....

The already dismal USB port on our trucks will peobabaly be an issue. Im pretty sure you need at least 1A to make a newer smartphone even charge when doing AA's processing. The pioneer head unit in my other vehicle has a 2A usb port for its android auto connection.

I just hope it arrives in later third gen tacomas and is easily swappable to our earlier trucks. To me android auto is where its at after using it in my other vehicle.

Based on the Ford SYNC part, this is likely, as the "QNX" system ENTUNE uses is shared with Ford SYNC.

    Edit - QNX, not GNX

If we go the piggyback route, a Raspberry Pi. If we go the preferred way, rooting, I would load the program on a Raspberry Pi running Linux and send it out with all the files preloaded. That way if there is an update I can just email it out. And you get a RPi to boot. I think it is $35 for the RPi nowadays. You could even buy it yourself and if someone wants to host the files download from them.

And believe me, I just want to hack and add. I’m not interested in a completely new program. Adding or deleting to what is already there is easier for me.

Now you have me thinking. I was never thinking about selling this, just fixing mine. We have been getting in through the USB port and exploiting a flaw in the picture upload file system (for the radio). The dash is a tear down situation right now and more complicated. Anyways, I wonder if we can exploit anything through the navigation’s micro SD? I will check tomorrow. If that is true, then a new micro SD card with the files would be the way to share with everybody.

Dood! You are saying all the right words!

I've been wanting to get a Raspberry Pi since they launched. Whatever route you go sounds good to me.

Same here, I don't mind Entune, I just want more control over it.

Thanks for playing in this sandbox!

I had found this before, here's some info on how to root into older ENTUNE radios, maybe the log-in is the same? https://www.toyotanation.com/forum/...12-2017/417485-modifying-entune-update-3.html

After reading this, does anyone like Sirius XM? I received a deal in the mail for $156.00 a year about 13 a month. I am tempted at least for the first year.

I already pay for YouTube Premium that I used to stream with my 2007 Tacoma. I added a Pioneer head unit (2007 Tacoma) with Apple Car play.

I miss the Apple car play.

Nope! I cannot abide paying for a service to get friggin' commercials (and mediocre content). We're only paying for Hulu at home because it was part of the deal to axe the cable. All of us hate the commercials, but the cost to upgrade to no commercials is ridiculous.

It's great that I really only see / hear commercials during football season. That's more than plenty.

I am curios if some of the reason for the Pandora exit isn't part of the Sirius XM buyout?

I decided to keep XM beyond the free trial (I have owned it before) and recommend paying by check so they cannot LOCK YOU IN. If you wait long enough the offers improve, with TAX I paid $35 for 6 months.

I was never impressed with the music channels but did like it for ESPN and Fox Sports plus the ability to listen to live games. Ultimately I decided it wasn't worth it for the price and stream off my phone now instead. If you can get a good promo rate its nice to have but not worth full price IMO.

+1. Biggest reason I'll never sign back up is because the music quality sucks IMO compared to bluetooth, and canceling with them is an annoying PITA. You have to call and talk to a person (no easy online cancel option that I could find) and you have to literally tell them "no thanks" 10 imes before they finally relent and say they'll go ahead and cancel it.

I just find bluetooth music and podcasts to be a much better experience overall.

You guys should call and complain about Toyota removing features. Maybe if we all complain, they will try harder to push out an entune 3.0 update for us.

Regardless of it saying that its services are subject to change. I'd still consider it a feature, and by removing half of the app suite, I believe they are removing features.
