I wouldn’t worry about it, looks like the heat followed a baffle pattern. I think it looks cool.

Much like a tree you count the rings around the exhaust to see how old it is. It looks to be fairly new, one ring maybe one year old? :D

Maybe there was tape around it and there was left over glue residue that burned on with the heat of the exhaust

it's normal. heat causes discoloration in the steel and the way toyota has the baffles setup in the muffler you get that discoloration. nothing to worry about.

    Working on them
That is perfectly normal that is where the Baffles are located inside that do the actual sound barrier work and also because it holds back the exhaust flow at that point the metal gets hotter. My guess is that exhaust system is about a year old and being Stainless Steel you will see many years of service from it, If I wanted one and the Price was right and it was near me I would purchase that one.

As I mentioned, I like HAZ colors, so I leave everything I make raw, and coat it in mavcoat. I think that muffler looks cool :) The browning of that steel is just a hotter area exposed to atmosphere and creating a “protective layer” of elements science science science... there’s nothing wrong with that exhaust. Run it.

    All the things!
Hey, not to hijack your thread, but I just bought a Pro exhaust today ($300). It has about 1k miles on it and the exact same discoloration.

Side question to that, do you plan on replacing the existing exhaust gasket? My current gasket only has 18k miles and I'm not in a salt region. Is it 100% necessary?

    Thanks!
