It’s an awesome movie even the 2nd. Good way to waste a weekend on a crappy day.

Toluene is a great solvent. Cuts through oil extremely well. If I needed to clean a piece of metal then I'd use toluene. Or diesel.

But I wouldn't use toluene anywhere near any sort of rubber or polymer. It'll basically melt the material. Hence why its great as an adhesive among other similar binding applications.

Naphtha/gasoline/diesel/kerosene is good for cleaning equipment that isn't homogeneous, so if it has rubber or is a polymer, you're safer using one of those hydrocarbons as a cleaning agent.

For motorcycle chains, I'm a big fan of kerosene.

    -edit-
I realize that this is a poorly written post, but y'all get the idea. I hope.

It's mildly acidic, but I've never tried it so I have no idea.

Tomatoes also contain nicotine, so maybe your metal needs a buzz to get its day started off right.

Fill up an empty water bottle with bleach. Don't get the "safe for colors" kind. Just regular ole bleach you'd used to take armpit stains out of white t-shirts.

Drop a nail or any other piece of mild steel into the water bottle.

Cap the water bottle and stick it somewhere where it won't be consumed.

    Return 24 hours later.

    Report what's missing.

It's not Pepsi, but Dr. Pepper has a pH of 2.7. Can't imagine Pepsi being much if any different.

No dude, I wouldn't do that. If there was going to be some sort of exothermic reaction that could result in an explosion, I'd warn you ahead of time.

Make sure the bottle is full of bleach when you do this so that the nail (or whatever) is completely submerged.
