I am running LEDs in my plate lights and have nothing like what you have. Is your camera lens really clean? Is is frosted from cleaning it with something other than a lens cloth ?

mine is really clean and I have the same issue.... I think it depends on the bulb that you get / where the led chips are positioned on said bulb

Why the hell do you need to upgrade your license plate lights? Do cops have issues seeing your license plate as it is?

Don't modify things that don't need modifying, and you won't have silly problems like this one.

I'm all for MODS if you can keep it looking OEM but better, this just seems really unnecessary. I like my clear vision at night in my backup CAM, now if these bulbs improved that then YES, since they do not why bother?

its because you have 2 lights that are orange (3700) compared to all the white leds (4500-5500). some peoples ocd wont let them run different color light bulbs.

The OEM camera is pretty much crap. After upgrading my head unit this past weekend it really became apparent. My job requires I travel a good bit so I rent a LOT of cars. This is the worst camera I’ve seen.

Any suggestions for an upgrade would be appreciated.

I'm amazed on these forums daily, and apologize for singling out your post...any forum;l cars, trucks, boats, watches, knives...anything. So this is the worst backup camera on the market, really? I beg to differ, and if folks stop the Franken effort of mods maybe the objectiveness would be restored.

Absolutely no offense taken, but in my opinion the backup camera sucks.

I have no complaints about my backup camera, or my led upgrade. The bigger question here is, how much time is spent in reverse?

No problems. All lamps on the rear are LEDs. (the stripes in the photo are from the Hz refresh rate of the HU screen and shutter speed)

I went to my local vinyl shop and got 2 1/2-3/4 pieces of black 3m and put them on the upper part of the light. Problem solved. Or you could vinyl the whole thing and leave a home in the center. Either way and free

The site I got my plate LEDS from (www.superbrightleds.com) has complete specs on their bulbs. I ordered bulbs with a narrow beam in an effort to avoid these issues. Happy so far.

I know this is an older post but hope someone can find it and maybe find it useful. Someone mentioned turning off your lights when going in reverse and that got me thinking. I'm installing a Normally Closed Relay switch into my back up lights. So, when I go in reverse it will turn off the license plate lights and when I go back into drive it will turn them back on again.
