So I get about 2 to 3 emails or phone calls per month from the dealership I purchased my truck from with some sort of offer to trade in and buy new or just simply buy my 2016. Just seems like a scam.

Have any of you done this and come out the other end without spending more or making money on your sell backs?

Dealerships are not in the business of losing money. May not be a scam but you are not going to come out ahead.

I know this, but wondering if older models may be in more demand. I know a lot of people that prefer to buy used. I already have quite a bit of equity into my truck so not falling for the "your monthly payment will be the same" crap. But just thought as if this as maybe this was a good opportunity based on supply/demand.

They're car salespeople. They want to sell you a car. Demand is not any greater than usual; there is no shortage that will somehow put you ahead in terms of trade in value.

Hah, I get these all the time!

So you're saying I can trade in my truck that I only owe 19k on and get 72 more payments at full price? Sweet deal! And I get TSS with more $400 sensors with the potential to brake for shadow ninjas?!?! Where do I sign up!?

Sure the monthly payment goes down... it also starts over at 60 months and they pay you less for your old truck than you could get on your own.

Net net is you gain two more years of payments and end up paying more for the new truck.

Last time I was in a car dealership for service and was looking at some of the new trucks. A sales rep stated they had a promotion going on and they could lower my car payments and get me in a new truck. I replied by saying ok, I may be interested in the one on the showroom floor and how much are you going to pay me? The sales rep said what? I told him I have no car payments, so to lower them they would have to pay me.

If I got calls and emails every week from the dealer I purchased from I would never buy from them again. F that, they already got money off me. Leaches looking to suck more out of you.

They will give you a terrible trade in offer. And lie saying that your trade in is highly desirable. If you had a 2004 corolla they would use the same tactic.

A little something every chance we get.
OK, actually SOMETIMES you can. Depends on your market. I went ++++ for the game on two lease turn ins, then - meh. But you WILL get these from the dealer all the time, because they all use a centralized software that DOESN'T EVEN CARE if it's a lease. If you bought it, you have good value after 2 years, and those trades are good for them. BUT, unless you go GET a deal, just smile, and say "I am rich with Tacoma!"

My dealership did the same thing when I had my '15 OR and put me into a '17 OR for the same payment and no money down. It will take some haggling to get other stuff included, but that's part of the fun of buying. They want older models for their used inventory and need to get rid of new old stock especially now with the '19s coming.

If you're close to the dealership it doesn't hurt to check it out and see what they'll offer...be prepared to spend a couple hours there and or walk away if you don't get what you want out of the deal.

Half the battle is to get you there. One way is to say they will give you a ridiculous amount for your trade to suck you in.

I still get calls for my 2005 dakota. The local dodge dealership says over the phone, "We will give you top dollar." I ask what is top dollar, and their reply is we have to see the truck. I reply back, then if you base it on what the truck looks like its not top dollar. Then I hear silence.
Yea, they want to get you the same payment, but what most people dont look at is the term. If you have already paid into 2 years on this one, they will get you in a new truck for the same monthly payment, but the term will start all over. Tell them if you were interested in changing trucks that often you would have leased this one.

I get the same emails. I'm pretty sure it's so they can plus up their certified preowned inventory.

We've purchased new Toyotas from three different dealerships in the past four years. After about 12 months of owning each vehicle, we start receiving calls and letters, stating the market is such that they need used vehicles and want us to trade in. It is a very annoying tactic of Toyota dealerships. We do not get the same hassle from the Honda dealerships where we've purchased new vehicles.
