Anybody running the new Cooper A/TW tires? Similar to a Cooper AT3 but with lots of siping for snow traction. Seems to have better availability in Canada than the US.

I just had the A/TW installed last week and have been really impressed with them.

Coming from BFG Rugged Terrains (which wore terribly, and after the first 10k sounded and felt like mud tires and were shit in the wet) they're a huge improvement. The A/TWs roll smooth and fast and handle really well. I went up a size to 265/75/16 and even with the extra diameter, my truck feels faster than with my old tires. They handled the recent east coast storm really well, and this morning's freezing rain on top of snow and slush was no problem at all.

Definitely happy so far, but I don't have much time on them yet, so take that for what it's worth.

Thanks for the report. Where did you buy them, a chain or local store?

I had a set of Cooper AT/W tires installed back in November of last year and I've put about 5000 miles on them so far. I'm impressed with them found they do perform noticeably better in the snow than the Duratracs they replaced. The softer compound and abundance of siping gives them better traction and it's an improvement you notice most when it comes to braking and RWD acceleration (meaning you're not in 4WD). Duratracs are good in the snow but these are just a notch better.

They're much quieter than the Duratracs but they ride and handle more or less the same. As for a change in MPG - mine went down about 1-2 mpg and I don't know if that can be attributed to a softer compound and more siping (more rolling resistance) or the fact that I went back to P265/70-16 from LT265/75-16. If I had it to do over again I would've stayed with the larger size.

Would I recommend them as a winter tire? Absolutely. Would I recommend them for year-round use? I don't know yet because I've only had mine for a few months. My OEM Toyota alloys are corroding pretty badly so my initial plan when I got the new Coopers was to use them for the winter and then pick up a second set of wheels and with regular A/T tires for the summer so I can send out the original wheels for refinishing. Money is tight now so I may abandon that plan and just run the A/TW tires all year.

Just got some new ATW's installed today, we'll see how they do this winter and how they hold up to highway miles pulling a trailer. I was looking for the best compromise of $$$, longevity, potential MPG, and performance in winter conditions and had it narrowed down to these and some michelin LTX's, which most of my research pointed towards being the better tire, but I got such a better deal offered on the ATW's I figured I'd give them a shot and if they turn out to be less than amazing, at least I saved $300 on them compared to the LTX's...

Reviving a very old thread. I just ordered a set of ATW in P245/75R16 for my 2004 RC 4X4. I am gooing from P265/70R16 to the 245's for less weight and a thinner tire for those snow piles I hit at 40 mph out on the interstate in the winter. I wanted something better for winter than the M/S 2's that I have now. Would have waited until the end of summer but the MS/2's have a little sidewall sidewall cracking going on with some near the edge of the tread as well and I'm going to put about 2000 miles on the truck in May. These Michelin's have 50,000 miles on them and they have been on the truck for 5 years. The truck sat for a year before I bought it so I attribute that to the premature sidewall cracking. I have nothing but great things to say about the MS2's but I need a little more bite where I live now. I guess I'll find out how the ATW's are in the summer long before I get to see how they are in the winter.

Mine have been on about a year. They are wearing nice. Haven't checked them with a tread gauge but as near as I can tell they still look almost new. Mileage? I checked the receipt the other day but forget what it was. They have been on a year and I drive about 12,000 miles a year. I'll check the receipt again and post again. I also run about 50 miles a month on mild dirt trails. We had an extremely mild winter so I wasn't able to really test them out a lot on the ice. They work well in snow and ice. As near as I can tell they are a tad better than Michelin MS/2's in the snow and ice. They work fine on trails and handle wet roads very well. I had to swerve to miss a deer at 65mph and they howled but handled that emergency evasive maneuver on dry pavement just fine.

Well I put just 65,000 miles on mine in the past year and a half. I have nothing but good things to say about this tire. It did great in our northeast Ohio winters, did great up in the mountains off-roading on some rough and rocky trails out west, and most of those miles were done pulling a trailer, even in some hot summer weather over 100 degrees across the plains. I was running 35 psi which turned out to be pretty overinflated, but since I do a lot of towing I thought I'd bump it up. Probably should have done a chalk test, but I've been too busy for that sort of thing. I was not as on top of tire rotations either, again, super busy lately. Anyways here is a picture of my retired ATWs with 65000 miles on them. I'm sure I could have kept them on much longer if I'd have rotated more often and run a lower PSI, as you can see, the edges have tons of life left but the centers are pretty worn. Still not bad for a tire rated at 50k!! That siping runs pretty deep!

I was originally going to put another set of ATWs on without question, but turns out Cooper just released a new tire also based on the AT3, they're calling it the AT3 4S. The At3 gets great reviews but lacks the snowflake rating, which is something I want where I live (snow belt.) well this new tire is supposed to be something of a best of both worlds between the AT3 and the ATW. It's not as winter engineered as the ATW, but definitely more winter geared than the AT3, and it comes with the snowflake rating AND a 65k mile warranty, which is better than both the other tires. It's brand new without any winter reviews yet, but I like and trust Cooper so I'm giving them a shot. Here they are all mounted up! If they don't impress me the same I'd have no second thoughts about switching back to the ATWs.

was going to paint my steelies but found these rims on a local buy site and got them for $430 CDN. and immediately had the Cooper ATW's installed. We'll see how they handle winter this year and i'll update in the spring
