    I am gonna buy a cheap import radio and use it without being licensed. Fuck the FCC.
    What are they going to do to me? Three hits and a cot sounds like a vacation.

    I’ve been digging further into this and I don’t believe the problem was spurious emissions. Modern radio design may have gotten rid of this issue just by virtue of design evolution (my guess.) Kinda of like ABS in vehicles was a mandated requirement in the past, and nowadays, it’s just regular, standard equipment.

    The FCC Advisory stemmed from the FCC taking issue with the manufacturer of the Baofeng UV-5R V2+. Last month, the FCC issued a cease and desist order to the U.S. seller, making it clear that they considered the UV-5R V2+ to be non-compliant because it allowed any user (licensed and unlicensed) to use frequencies that are used by public safety/aviation/marine and possibly NOAA.

    Most licensed HAMs know to stay away from those frequencies. But a vast number of unlicensed individuals AND businesses simply flipped to any channel, without regard to assigned frequencies.

    So, hopefully those HAM individuals with current non-FCC approved radios, can lock down to the ham bands only (144-148, 222-225, 420-450 MHz) in order to comply. Some radios will be able to be updated with firmware changes. This is what I hope I can do so that my current radios don’t turn into cheap Chinese paper weights.

    Disallowed frequencies:

    136 MHz – 137 MHz (Aviation Services, Part 87);

    137 MHz – 138 MHz (Satellite Communications, Part 25);

    138 MHz – 144 MHz (not available to any FCC licensee – Federal use only);

    156.7625 MHz – 157.0375 MHz (Maritime Services, Part 80 and Aviation Services, Part 87)

    406.0 and 406.1 - I don’t remember what service.

    Great investigative journalism Loyd !
    I’ve read all about the Baofeng radios a couple weeks ago and must say your post sounds exactly like the article I read.
    Good journal or plagerism ?

    “INTEGRITY - it’s not what you “do right” in front of people...

    ... it’s what you do when the door is closed and no one is around you.”

    Not from Google this time.

    It’s directly from my dad who had a man-to-boy discussion with me when I was eight years old and he found out that I jacked a kite from the local Five and Dime (for you youngsters, that’s a discount store.)

    He made me go back and I had to scrape ALL the bubble gum from the entire store floor to pay for the kite.
