The joys of a small town...

Need a 12pt torx bit thing to take off the vw cv's. Nothing at true value or Napa.

Speaking of.. What the hell are those things called? I need the size that's similar to a t40 or t45... Which worked for the passenger side, but drivers side started to strip since it was only 6 point instead of 12.

The internet says Triple Square, but 12 point and 12 point torx finds plenty of results. While I'm sure small town plays a role, since results come up at Checker, I'd be more inclined to blame buying a German car.

Need some advice from you experienced Tacoma folk...

I've got a 2015, lifted. Diff drop kit is installed. CV boot fins are currently rubbing. Installed front skid last night and have very little clearance between the diff bracket and the skid (see photo). Concern is that upon impact, it's not much squish room and then this https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/remove-the-differential-drop-on-your-05-tacoma.118545/

My internet searching wisdom has me thinking of removing the diff drop, and sliding the cv boots down and reclamp with hose clamps. :notsure:

How much of a lift do you have to require a diff drop?

I have about 2.5-3" from a Toytec Boss setup. My understanding is the diff drop helps relieve the cv angle to help avoid the boot fins touching, and prematurely tearing. Even with the DD currently installed, it's not relieving the angle enough and the boot fins are touching anyways.

So thought process is slide the boots and hose clamp to solve the boots touching, and remove the DD to re-gain clearance between the skid.

New boots is a lot cheaper than a busted diff.

I'd go ahead and take off the diff drop. I think that's more of an "additional item to profit off of" for the company than something that does much in the real world...kinda like lca skids.
