I can only assume they somehow shortened the distance of the latch to catch. I think there are some spacers on them.

yes, there is, i only have 1 on each latch though. it is only about 1/8th". you can kind of see in this picture. when i tried to remove it the moving parts of the latch that releases it were pinched against the cover, and did not function correctly. regardless, hope it helps you.

SO, after the dealer “adjust”. NO difference. Called Toyota customer service and was told it is NOT meant to keep water out in ANY degree!! Guess it would even make a lousy boat anchor

yep....exactly what my service department told me. when did you buy it? did you get it new? If so, i would call Toyota Customer Experience and bitch. 1-800-331-4331 . I explained mine was leaking severely, no one reads a manual before they buy a vehicle, and my sales rep never informed me they "weren't meant to be water tight". It is a known issue and they should not be surprised by your call. make sure you let them know you understand they are not supposed be water proof, and that the leaking is excessive. also mention that your dealer "adjusted" it, but no change.

I am currently trying to track down that Leer X2T i mentioned earlier in the thread. not sure exactly when this year they were discontinued, but I'm not having any luck finding an authorized dealer with one still in stock. might wind up with a one piece hard cover instead.

Unfortunately frank. That was from customer service at Toyota. NO help. Do you think that weather strip you applied did any good?

it might have had some effect...but not enough to make me ok with the amount of water still coming in.

If there was no intention to be waterproof, then why design the thing with rubber seals, etc? I've had my 2017 LTD now for three weeks and after one day sitting in moderate rain, everything inside is thoroughly soaked.

    So... does everyone’s leak badly?

I bought one the other day from a guy nearby and he said he never had water leak in from the cover. He said the only water that got in was through the two side storage compartments on the sides of the bed.

Some guys have said they don’t have much leaking (which is subjective). Lots of people have extensive leaking like mine. Not sure if I’ve seen any one say theirs doesn’t leak at all. If you read through the thread you’ll see I tried a bunch of things that may or may not have helped but in the end mine leaked through the joints of the cover and there wasn’t anything I could do to try to prevent it. The guy who sold you his either was really really lucky, unobservant, or a liar. I hope it is the first one. I sold mine with a fair warning, to guy who said he doesn’t care about leaking, just wanted some security and only wanted OEM. I then went to a new leer model trifold that was poorly designed for Tacomas. I’m now on to an Undercover Ultraflex. Good luck with the OEM. Hope it stays dry.

In case you didn’t catch it earlier in the post...here’s a $20 kit to fix the cubbies from leaking. I put it on my truck and it’s working great.

mine doesn't leak at all, my stuff stays dry, even towards the front or back. i have a bed mat so that might be why i never see water... also i have the corner blocks in the front installed to block the water from coming in.

    Frank,

Where did you buy the weather stripping to do this? I just put my cover on and ran my truck through the car wash and already have water coming in at the edge.

    Thanks,
    Max

Home Depot I believe. Unsure if it Helped at all or not. Like I mentioned I had water coming in elsewhere too. Good luck.

Well I’m in the same boat trying a lot of the things you did. I don’t have issues with the cover weather stripping not touching the bed cap. In the back it’s not as tight, but maybe that’s to allow the tailgate to open/close without destroying the weather stripping. I don’t have any evidence it is leaking there

what I do know is it comes in the weather stripping slits. The rain runs onto the bed cap half goes off the outside and half goes inside. I’m going to put some foam on the bed cap in a different spot than you did. I’ll let you know

tailgate seal as Max did helps to a degree
I also ran z shaped weather stripping from Amazon under the bed rails between the composite bed and steel body. This helped not have mag chloride come in behind that. I couldn’t run it all the way to the front since I was reliant on flexing the bed and body

next up is more silicone since those rubber caps on front still leave 1/2” gap so not sure what they were there for

attached picture after a rain car was parked the whole time
