I have the 300p and @CalTacoma09 has the single and we both have the same tires. He’s always done before me, and has less set up and tear down.

 

Two of my brothers did. They both sold them though. Now one has an FJ40 on tons and the other one has a CJ7

I built my '85 pickup.

 

Hmm, according to the specs, CFM at 30psi is 1.86 for the 400p and 2.43CFM for the ARB.

I talked to my dad and first thing he said was "does he still have his 85 with the flatbed?"

That FJ is sick. Is it presmog? Iroks are the best tire hands down, those look like radials, the bias plys that I have ran always look like ballons.

 

I think it is. It has the running gear out of a ‘94 dodge 1 ton with the 360cu In engine though, not sure if the smog follows the motor or the vin. Other than that he’s running Atlas 4:1, 5:71 axles (I think) and 40” iroks and I think they are bias ply. He and my dad definitely swear by them. I stick to radials mainly because I drive mine on the road.

 

Did some exploring on Red Mountain Rd and went to West Lake yesterday. Tried to take some photos but I rather be in the truck driving. Everything went well. No one got hurt or broken parts. My brother’s 18 Tacoma OR 4x4 did well, some spots were a tight squeeze. His stock mud flaps scraped over every large rock. Side steps held up well on some rocks too and his skip plates got some dings but nothing serious. I’m glad my Tacoma was a little smaller, easier to maneuver over the trails. A little scrape on the rear axle ball but backed off and picked another line. Passenger slider graced the side of a tree on a tight corner which helped my brother picked a better line. I also learn that if you get stuck remember the rocks underneath you. Backed up a little and scraped my driver LCA and skid plate area on a 12-15” rock, nothing serious tough. All in all it was a very bumpy ride going to West lake. There some other lakes around there that we’ll check out some other time. One lake recommended a 4” lift with 33” tires. All the trails recommended airing down your tires to 13-15psi but we did around 22psi since we didn’t have a portable air compressor which I’ll have one next time.

I'd say sliders but skids are pretty important too.

I'd probably go sliders, diff covers then front end skids and tranny skids

Assuming you already have factory skids I would go with sliders. First hand experience from my brothers 18 OR 4x4 sliders would be a very important upgrade if you hits that trails with rocks, trees, and tight turns.

I got the three skids first and my sliders are pending to be installed. I think both are equally important but seeing as though I'm not as high as some of these other rigs (no pun intended @Pella) I wanted to protect my underside.
