Hi all, thanks for the add. I've recently picked up a new 2018 TRD Offroad Double Cab and I'm looking for your input.

It's mission 95% of the time is a truck to take me between my businesses in SC and TN. The other 5% of the time I want all the capability that the TRD provides to deal with:
    • weather, rain and snow
    • leave the pavement when needed with confidence
    • Equip it to assist other people or myself where needed.
    • This business commute means I drive roughly 3k miles a month so primary set up is an over the road truck.
      • I see many wrecks or breakdowns, that involve no injuries and have once observed a death due to leaving the road and hitting a boulder. Much of the highway I travel is long stretches between towns where there are no services.
    • It's mission is not over-landing or expedition.
Light Duty recovery items are part of the strategy. So, basically I'm a interstate commuter that is also a good Samaritan and I want to equip for that. I'm hoping that there are some good ideas or things to avoid to be found in your experiences. That said, please fire away with suggestions, clarifying questions etc. As of right now, I don't have immediate plans to to lift it as it's current mission doesn't involve the immediate need for additional ground clearance.

This isn't a bug out truck, but rather a get home truck. Sometimes the weather turns during my trips, this truck provides a great way to assure I get home.

I've got a pretty well equipped get home bag that includes the typical personal first aid, rain gear, para cord etc.

What I'm thinking of adding is recovery items, and the best way to mount or store them securely.

Paramount to that set of upgrades might include
    • Hi Lift Jack to deal with ditch recovery for me or others
    • Winch
    • Front bumper, due to winch
    • LED Strobes for visibility in the event of rendering aid
    • Shovel
    • Axe
    • Fuel storage
I wouldn't normally consider a bed cover, however Im thinking about security of the recovery package. I'd probably prefer a rack sort of system that the gear could be secured to, and easily removed if I were doing weekend regular truck stuff.

Just wondering if the group has recommendations for this set up, or specifically if you have "must have" or "definitely avoid brand X" type of guidance for the ideas listed above.

    Best,
    JR
