Lemon? Anyone else bought a new Tacoma and feel it might be a lemon?

    Hi,

So I just bought a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. I have only had it one month, and put 300 miles on it. Two weeks into ownership there was clicking coming from the front wheel well, dashboard vibration/noise, and seemingly performance concerns (see my other three posts if interested in more detail). I just sold my 2003 Tacoma TRD Off-Road, and test drove two other Tacomas - after buying mine. The truck I have just seems off, like it's a lemon.

My question, has anyone else tried returning/exchanging their truck. We have the lemon law here in CA.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Scott

I too have a vibration whenever I go on rough road (pretty much almost everywhere in socal) my tss doesn't work and my bumper cap is separating like a lot of people on here and my local dealer said none of those issues can be fixed (won't fix my tss because I have an OEM pro grill with garnish) said that voided the warranty

just traded my 16 [texas] for an 18 [mexico] (to get a double cab) after i said i wouldnt get another taco.

    i noticed..
some drivetrain vibration and a nice ****ing whistle from the driver side mirror somewhere
the front bumper cap doesnt fit tight on the outer edges
guess i wont be selling my oem grill

but shifting seems a bit more sorted and less wind noise in the cab

Maybe look into Lemon Laws, may only cover more major things than the bumper. First new vehicle guys? Dealer has I believe three attempts to fix issue. I'd think some resolutions are more customer service from the dealer than Lemon Law issues. Wanting a new truck because it "feels" like a lemon? Really?

Not sure what the lemon laws are where you live, but where I am (Michigan) the law states that you have to have returned for the same exact issue three times without the dealership being able to correct the issue before it can begin lemon law processes. So to technically answer your question according to where I live - no, it’s not a lemon. Issues? Yep. Lemon? Nope.

Thank you to those with something valuable to offer the conversation.

Yes, lemon laws require the dealer be offered the opportunity to address the issue(s). And yes, I believe they have three opportunities to address it. I have been to the dealer once, and none of the issues could be re-created. I will record them, and hopefully they will get addressed. Thinking ahead, I was curious if others have had similar experiences to share.

300 miles in and pissed is a reaction to expecting a brand new Toyota to actually go more than two weeks before there are issues. I've only owned Toyotas for the last 20 years. I was not expecting this. In eight years of ownership of my 2003 Tacoma, the only thing I fixed was the AC. Truck was a f@@king champ. Wish I could say the same for this one.

PS. I also noted the driver's side whistling noise...I just have too many other issues to worry about...

Thanks, had a bit of laugh with that.

I would be willing to bet that your 2003 Tacoma (when new) had its own flaws. Any vehicle has its own flaws. The problems you're describing are kinda petty. A whistling mirror... Maybe normal wind noise and you're just focusing on this truck more since it's new?
