I’m looking to add some sliders to my ‘17 Tacoma TRD. Before i pay $500 for purchase/installation at the local off road shop, I’m wondering:
recommendations and experiences from anyone who has inatalled them on your own?
how much will the weight affect my mileage? I already get shit mpg after my lift and aftermarket tires/wheels, and gas is expensive AF in Hawaii. BUT i need the extra boost getting in my truck and would like the extra protection when going off road.
    Thanks!

You won't see a difference in the mileage. Put them on and don't worry about anything.

If all you need is help getting in, some lightweight nerf bars or steps is probably what you need if weight is a concern. Having said that, I’m probably going with a set of full dom sliders because, well, that’s just the way I’m going. I don’t need the step up as I’m 6’4”.

Once, I was very thankful for the rock rails on my FJ. Saved me from crunching my panel. And this was ‘on road’.

I’m sure some feel the weight more than others. A good set of dom sliders weighs about as much as a lightweight drinking buddy, so it’s not that much weight. But I suspect that if you travel highway speeds much, the added air drag has to add up a little. It’ll be worse on lifted vehicles of course.

My advice: just do it and don’t sweat the small stuff.

Install is easy, I’m guessing shipping to Hawaii is what’s going to cost you. If the local shop is offering sliders and install for $500 you should take it.

Agreed, assuming they're offering a quality product...

Mileage loss will be negligible. You are adding 100+ pounds to the truck and there will be a tiny amount of aerodynamic loss ( like these trucks are aerodynamic anyway )... I'd say the worst I've ever lost by installing sliders might be a single MPG.

Thank you!! I found a set of Nerf bars online but i’m not sure they’d hold up on some of the roads w have out here. Big Island is pretty rugged.

If you're gonna get something, get actual sliders that will offer protection.
