My wife got a Crosstrek and the oil filter is a black Subaru one. She wants to use Subaru filters and all the ones I can find are blue, but I’m reading that the black ones are made in Japan and thought to be better. Anybody know who makes filters for Subaru or where black ones can be obtained? Have not yet checked at the dealer, asking here first.

    ^According to this page https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/oem-parts/subaru-subaru-oil-filter-15208aa15a-15208aa15a/
The black filter has P/N 15208AA160. Googling shows the cheapest source as eBay shipped from Australia. Works out to about $15 US a filter if you buy 5: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Su...R-IMPREZA-LIBERTY-XV-15208-AA160/192230882538

The blue ones are made by Fram and should be avoided if possible.

Alternatively you can run a quality aftermarket filter like Wix P/N 57055 or 57055XP. If Denso starts making a compatible filter for the car (like they did for up to 2015 Crosstrek), that would work as well.
