    Hi all -

New to the forum obviously or I wouldn't be posting here. Have lurked through the pages on multiple occasions however.

Have owned this 2004 V6 with TRD package for almost 7 years now but outside of oil changes and regular maintenance haven't done anything exciting to it. I also have a 96 Land Cruiser and that one's getting pretty dialed in so I got a new paint job on the Tacoma (it was pretty faded and starting to show some rust) and been recently hunting for suspension components to renew the tired old (200k + miles) stuff. Not a rock crawler, not even a serious off roader but like to know the vehicle is capable to get me out of things I was stupid enough to get into in the first place. That's why I love these Toyota 4x4's.

The wealth of knowledge and experience here is impressive - I hope I can contribute because I for sure will be looking here to learn.

Now... what's the fix for that plastic piece on the outside of the driver's seat??? Duct tape didn't hold very long! And heat doesn't work. Used to work, then had some major engine work done (i.e. replaced at what I know now is a horrible shop) then it wouldn't blow hot, now the temp dial won't even turn and it appears something like hardened Great Stuff squeezing out around the dial. It's not worked for a couple years but I'm in Houston so it doesn't bother me too much. So those are my issues off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll be popping up on threads on those topics. On to the pics...

Yeah.. No rust, but had a little help from Maaco on the shiny parts. It was pretty faded.

    Welcome.
Post a pic of that plastic price that won't turn so we can see what you are talking about.

Two different things. I know that bit doesn't read too well but sounded right in my head.

Plastic piece I'm referring to is the trim on the side of the driver's seat (you see when you open the door) that won't stay attached and is now about broken in two.

The thing that won't turn is the knob to adjust air temperature on the dash. I don't think it's the heater valve on the firewall as that moved pretty easily couple years ago when I was first trying to diagnose the problem. My son drives it pretty much exclusively so I don't know when it exactly it started but looked at it a few months ago and there's what looks like expanding foam oozing out around the dial now. Sorry no pics but I spend more time out of town than in town and I don't have any. I think the morons I paid to put another engine in (head gasket I think--lots of smoke, gummed up cats, etc) did something to it but they swear it's unrelated and I wouldn't let them near it again anyway.
