Come to realize that here in Florida I need a bug shield for my 2017 Tacoma to work against those bloody LUV bugs. I want something close to the hood but not on top of it. Any recommendations. Please provide make and part number.

    Thanks

Love bugs, holy hell I hated them. Never found a deflector that worked well at all with a truck profile.
Oh, and if you just got to the sunshine state, you'll be overjoyed to know you get the bugs twice a year, spring AND fall.

Why would you even install one? Just buy something to scrape the bugs off your windshield if it's really THAT BAD but as someone who visits the everglades in the summer i've never even had to do that to see. It just looks super goofy and god forbid you get little rock chips on your 4x4 pick up truck lol

I got the dealer installed Unit that came from Toyota when i ordered the truck. We get swarms of bugs where i am as well and they can make a mess of your windshield and the deflector works well. Plus where i live it helps keep the windshield a little cleaner in winter and stone chips off the hood. with the stupid amount of salt and salt brine they lay down in winter here a stone chip turns into a rust bubble real quick. My AVS hoodflector should be here friday. I'm just hoping to reduce the paint chips.

I bought the AVS BS II when I got my truck. I took it off. One, it didn’t help with bugs much, if at all, and two, the sections that go over the headlights rubbed paint off underneath the hood right on the lip. They are kinda flimsy too. If you let the hood down fast, on mine, it rubbed against the top right of the surround causing a nice black spot where paint used to be. Your mileage might vary from mine though.

Well that doesn't sound very promising. I didn't know they had a II version...I purchased the original version (though had I had known, the II version looks much sleeker and probably would have purchased that).

I did see in what photos were available that the ends over the headlights looked kind of flimsy...I'll have to keep an eye out for some of the issues you've had. Thank you for the heads up!

No problem. You might have better luck than I. What I did at first after I saw the paint rubbed off was I put the carpet side of Velcro on the shield to keep it from getting worse. But after I noticed the surround indention and paint missing, I took it off. Said it ain’t worth it!!! Lol
