I was joking - but you gotta understand it is relative to who you're talking to.

I feel ya. After being told stock travel is only a few inches less than a long travel “LT” kit why spend $$$ for only a few inches. It seems like the sweet spot is to get bigger tires, bigger shocks, and upper control arms (UCA’s)

After actually mobing through the desert a few times I find my rear bottoms out way sooner than my front does on my TRD off road, I might get those 3” king bypasses and see if the front shocks can keep up with the rear. (Anyone have any experience with those triple bypasses that replace the rear shocks on Tacoma’s?

Anyone know where to buy front vertical reservoir mounts (like icons or some Kings that I’ve seen) that bolt to the sway bar holes?
My reservoir hoses are pretty long, and I don’t like how they sit now, small mounts welded to the frame. I can’t really mount them any closer to the coilover if they are horizontal.
The ends of the cans are sticking out the the tip of the frame..

    crap bolted and welded together....
anyone know if allpoos lt axles are the same length as the ones from TC? I know they both advertise +2", but cant seem to get a response on exact length for either.

Im on the fence on swapping out my AllPoo upper/lowers for a set of TC uppers/lowers. I know ill lose a bit of travel with going to TC, but the difference is negligible in my truck use. Only thing really stopping me is knowing the lengths for sure on the axles, mainly because i can almost pop out the inner part of my axle at ful droop. Since allpoos first kit doesnt come with limit straps....

Toytec might be able to help. Give them a call. They install kits but I don't know if they done LT before. I got my LT kit from them but installed it myself a few years back. But they have expaned in service since I got my kit.

    Or find someone local here.

Why am I being told that just because they claim to yield a certain amount of travel with a bolt on LT Kit doesn't mean that they will. I'm looking at Camburg vs LSK. Which one will yield more front travel? Both claim 14-14.5" I understand 4x4 will limit that. Does anyone here have experience with either of these bolt on kits?

LSK adds an extra inch width to each side which usually adds more travel since the angles at the frame / front diff stay the same, but the spindle is further away and travels further up and down.

It really doesn’t matter. No two trucks will get identical results. Lots of things will factor into that. Get the kit that you prefer. I wouldn’t base your decision purely on travel numbers.

Thanks! I'll stick with LSK then. I noticed camburg only offers upper and lower arms vs LSK with fabricated spindles. I appreciate the fast response.

Hello everyone, might be a little late to the party but I want to discuss a major teeter totter in my life as of now.

As someone who has been going to ocotillo for years now I always see the LT trucks hauling all over the place and it has always been my dream to be one of those guys. I’m 18 with around 25k in spending power due to a really good job but won’t have the money in hand for around 2 years. I don’t want to be hucking my truck insanely but it would be really cool to match the ability of something like this: https://youtu.be/nrT5nw_2oKQ (for the full extent what I would be doing) https://youtu.be/rItsRhX6Lyc (this is the type of jumping I would do, nothing insane or crazy) https://youtu.be/6OGco3d1KXk (this for how I would probably drive)

Take into mind that all the videos are the max of what I would be pushing my truck, not the normal use off road (normal would be a little lighter but still intense)

If I ended up going LT I would go to ocotillo/glamis for the majority of my off-road time as I live in south OC and would be primarily dealing with dunes (not insane speed either) just enough to beat the garbage sand rails and stay at the front of the pack lol.

I’m looking at solo xlt for my 2nd gen 4x4 and not sure what to do with the rear but that’s not the problem right now. That’s what I would probably go with in the front. (I’m dumb and know nothing about rear lingo or anything)

    Here are my life options:
    1. Keep truck mid travel (buy kings for the front and back and aftermarket ucas but nothing more) and buy a dirt bike instead of beefing my truck so I can take that and haul and keep my daily driver nice and road ready and just more of a normal truck (I can do this as of right now if I want)

    2. Sell my 4x4 to get a prerunner so I can run LT without the stress of 4x4 CV and go with the long travel stuff mentioned above (this would probably give me an extra 5 to 7 grand more due to price difference of the trucks) and wait around 2 years to actually sell it to get my final around 25k (just for LT) same as below:

    3. Long travel my current 4x4 Tacoma and save up for the next two years. Keeping in mind that this will be my daily.

I’m in college right now and looking at around 70-120k in salary depending on where I move after graduate school so I will be perfectly capable to handle these costs then (5-6 years from now) but until then the money from the next two years is all I will have (around 25k with a monthly income of around $500 spendable dollars) Should I wait after college to do all this if I decide to go with option 2 or 3, or should I not waste my time and money on MT and get LT over with now.

In all reality I would only be going to ocotillo around 3-5 times a year and when I do I want to be able to accomplish the things above. For looks, they also are very sentimental to me. I dream of the look of LT but dread being a mall crawler. I’ve always loved Long Travel and always will <3

Thank you for your help. -Cameron

If it was me...you got a solid platform with your current taco and will probably need it as a commuter vehicle while in college. If you got the funds...I say buy an older Tundra or something that has been modified for LT. I am actually in the process of possibly moving to cali and man I have wanted to get so many used LT rides from there cause they are cheap and decent in their builds. The reason why I say getting a cheap used one right now is if it breaks down, you don't have to worry about school logistics. The second part is you would only go a few times a year, I think I saw some decent builds for about 5-10k that work great, just don't have all the nice luxuries that a 30k build would. This way you can also get a taste of what the LT lifestyle is like and the maintenance involved. I have an LT second gen and in suspension alone I have easily spent about 16k along with gussets and all that crap to get on the truck. You could buy a used platform for half of that and then really get rowdy with it if you don't mind some older tech behind the wheel.

As far as 4x4, I think many guys start out with the prerunner mentality and eventually want to roll with their 4wd brethren. This eventually leads them to either modifying their ride for 4x4 if they are too far into the build, or selling to start a 4x4 build. Since you got the 4x4 now I would strongly urge to keep it. Why invest all that money in your truck to turn around and go prerunner to save a bucks in the beginning knowing that you just limited your truck in a big way?

At the end of the day though since you are in the scene...see if you can ride in a LT rig if you havnt already and make that determination afterwards. For me, LT or GTFO but I love the feel of mine and the adrenaline you can have driving at faster speeds than an MT guy. The biggest thing is see if LT lives up to the hype for you...

Hi all. As the guy ahead of me said, I’m a little late to the party on this but he got a response so I’m hoping maybe I’ll see some as well.
I am looking to build a daily driver, but model it after the trophy trucks most of you all seem to be familiar with. The plan as of right now is to go with the aftermarket fenders, and a simple leveling kit, and I should be able to clear 35” tires. My conflict and question is, I cannot seem to find any pictures of Tacomas that have done a build like this, and I’m just curious as to how it would look. I appreciate the aggressive look that LT gives the tacomas but in all reality, I leave the offroading to my side by sides anyways. Its more for the looks than anything else. I would be willing to spend the money on some sort of suspension if need be. Just looking for any comments or suggestions.
    Thanks!

I might know what you mean...my first gen taco was built with a 6 inch drop bracket lift before I knew anything about real coilovers/MT/LT and all that jazz. I had eventually put glass fenders, hood, and bedsides along with a tube style front bumper. Had I known what the real deal stuff was before hand I would have just saved to be an LT guy and even collected a whole new front crossmember to convert my stuff back before I sold it.

Long story short, being on the east coast with no one knowing what a real long travel rig has everyone thought it was a trophy truck. I had thrown in deavers and good replacement coils up front so it rode decent, but nothing compared to doing it right. If you want the look, get some 1.5 inch spacers with some aftermarket wheels with some good backspacing (SCS?), 4 inch front fenders, 1.5 inch spacers for the rear and 4 inch bedsides. You will look the part and will have more clearance in the wheel wells and stuff which can help in making room for 35s. Get a cab mount chop and you should be able to work with 35s on a 2.5ish lift.

This is the answer I was looking for. I should of mentioned my family owns a bodyshop/dealership do I have the ability to do almost everything that will need to be done in terms of cutting and essentially making it look clean. And LT isn’t out of the question for later down the road, but for now the high speed offroad will be left to the Canam X3

Sounds good man, especially with second gens the whole rear bedside can be removed by bolts unlike the first gen that had a bunch of spotwelds. Whats great with your dealership association is removing that damn stock antenna base. That thing sucks.
